I don't think I'll talk about certain hairstyles and discount
retail stores anymore... all the insanity is liable to cause my
hair to fall out, and it is almost long dammit!
Happy Scrappy
I can't tell you what a great time I am having reading these posts. As long as it's all in fun, I don't think anyone minds. I agree with Chaeya that a mullet at least shows that people are making some effort to have long hair. Scrappy Happy is right that they look good on some people, but perhaps not many. I went to the Mullet Site too and was horrified by some of what I found, but some of those people looked fine, and some of them, in my opinion, weren't even wearing true mullets. If your hair is 5" long and top and partially covering your ears and the back is somewhat long, why is that a mullet? Looks to me more like a grown out regular haircut. The extreme mullets such as Billy Ray Cyrus' crowning glory are what I find offensive. And I think mullets are especially unbecoming on women, because I think they make women look more masculine. But let's face it, you're going to find the hairstyles that are least conventional at the places where ordinary people shop. Mullets are not popular for stuffy conservative types who only shop at expensive department stores. Those people need to maintain their pseudosocially acceptable looks. The real question is: How many of them would really like to have long hair but have to live this life of stuffy "normalness". And as for the women (who as we know don't usually have hair discrimination issues unless they want to look like Cyndi Lauper used to), that's their personal preference. I think many men, as someone mentioned, don't have the guts to go all the way out and grow out the front and sides. Anyway, that can be very hard for some people. At least the mullet gives them some aim toward longhairdom. Not for me, though. I'd rather have all one length or an anti-mullet. But that's my personal preference.
By the way, I shop everywhere. Wal-Mart is a favorite place of mine. K-Mart and Target can be fun too, as can the stuffier department stores (although perhaps I don't look like their usual clientele). I just like finding what I want at the best price, right color, size, selection, etc. Have fun and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.
I am paying the price for having a mullet-type hairstyle. When I started out three years ago I was growing everything but the top, which I kept about 1 to 1-1/2 inches. I soon discovered I was sprouting gray hair on the sides of my head above my ears.... and the gray hair is not like the rest of my hair, it is slightly frizzy. So I had the hairstylist cut hair on the sides to about 1/4 inch long. I admit part of the reason to have the short sides and top was that I felt "short-hair-oriented-people" would not notice my long hair!??? (grimmace) When I tied my hair in a ponytail it was partly true, because I looked like a short hair from the front.
Now I'm now paying the price for that mistake and going through another bad hair phase for the next several months (years!). The only consolation is that the rest of my hair is half way down my back, but it will be a VERY LONG TIME until it is all the same length.
A word to anyone considering growing their hair long, GROW IT ALL OUT and you won't be sorry! And learn how to take care of your long hair by brushing, etc. (This board has many excellent links to this information).
Keep that hair in, Mullet Man, I was enjoying this. No apology needed as my solar powered, supersonice bad vibe detector did not go off. If you enjoy hypocisies, I used to be the main one downing coupon clipping and shopping at certain retail stores preffering to shop at specialty shops and after having a child you know what I do now -- clip Coupons and go to Target, Wal-mart and K-mart and listen to my other mommy friends brag about who saved the most money.
Oh how I laugh at all the things that come back to bite me on the butt,
Chaeya
but still managed to splurge on the specialty shops now and then.
I <3 love men whose hair is well taken care off. Washed combed, and shinney, and i would even do it...but real long, I know there is a site, but not sure of the name.......let me know ok.....
