Just one question? I have a friend that had long hair for years and was talked into shaving it by a terrible girlfriend.. And he grew his hair back out. So, i asked him how he did it without getting frustrated during the "ackward" stage and he said he wore a hat throughout his growing untill it was to his shoulders..
Is this damaging to the hair or is this a good method of hiding the "ackward" stage?
I guess If it does damage your hair a little (but i dont think it will), after you pass the awkward stage and it looks fine but has damaged ends keep growing it out and get them trimmed off.
I used to hear that wearing a hat promoted hair loss, but some reports say that it's just a myth. Theory being that men who wore hats to hide thinning hair were already predispositioned to loosing thier hair, so it would be thinning and falling out anyways, whether or not they wore a hat. But it happened during this time that they were wearing the hat, so it was assumed that it was the hat that was the cause.
Personally I've worn hats for a long time, and have friends that did so for even longer, and I don't think any of us ever had any sort of problems, other than having a "hat head" when we take our hats off and the hair has temporarily taken the shape of the hat.
I would guess that a hat would be an excellent way to keep your hair under control until it is out of the awkward stage. I did not use this method personally but I do not think it would harm your hair as long as the hat fits properly and is not too tight. It sounds like a good alternative to a bandana. Absalom
