I am a White man but I like the curly, frizzy long hair too, afro haircut, dreadlocks...Any Black men read this board? Somebody knows Black men's haircut site?
J-P,
Speaking of dreadlocks, I have found this wonderful site on
dreadlocks (or locks as it is more properly called unless you are
thinking specifically of Rastafarian culture):

Everyone on this board would enjoy reading this since it goes
a lot into hair growth and hair ageing (as one travels along
the hair shaft) in general. Since locks represent naturally
tangled hair, the hair stays in place even when the hair finally dies and falls out at the root. Does this mean that locks will grow indefinitely long? Not necessarily, but read for yourself about how
to treat the ends to prevent fraying.
Apparently any hair will form locks if not combed. I've seen some
great locks on white men with straight hair, and the site described has some wonderful pics. New straight hair just takes longer to
join the existing locks than does new curly hair.
Perhaps if anyone has decided to cut their long hair short, they should first experiment with just not combing their hair and seeing it form into locks. Then if they don't like them, they can cut them off (locks, of course, are irreversible; once formed, they can't be combed out again).
I know what you mean, man. I'm Jewish and I've enjoyed allowing my naturally curly, fizzy hair to lock and I take pride great pride in the cascade of dense, evenly formed dreads I haved developed over the last couple years. Over that time I have experienced rapid growth so that when hanging free, my locks reach down my chest to my nipples. Actually the production and maintainence of my dreads has been relatively easy for me. Once the curls locked, in a month or so I've had weekly oil rubbings either at the salon or with friends and washing once or twice a month by my loctician, who "weeds" and checks for strays. My hair is naturally chestnut brown in color, with some carmel colored hi-lights that I'ved added for interest. I've always worn a walrus style stache, more chocolate, than chestnut brown in color. But I have let it get a bit overgrown as I'ved grown out my beard over the last few months. The beard has come in dense, full and curly as well. But my current challenge is to dreadlock my beard.
There are afew good sites out there if you are looking for more info, try Dreadlocks.com and Hairpolice.com. You might also want to try Knattyboy dread wax. One really inspiration dude is Keith Hamilton Cobb, an old star of All My Children, an ABC Soap. They've got some good photos of his incredible dreads on the AMC Website archives photo-gallery.
Good luck with the locking. It is a truly empowering journey. If you are lucky enough to grow them, be proud to show them.
Tell us what progress you've made,. There are many of us wanna dreads out here.
