hey message board,
got a simple question for ya.....every 3 or so weeks i trim the hair behind my ears, i think its becuz' thats what i used to do when i had short hair. what i ask is, is this a "no no" when your growing out your hair, or does it not make a huge a difference, please give me some input
thanks,
Dave
Dave,
Some people trim certain areas of their head - like the back of the
neck - because the hairs have a shorter life span and really don't
add to the overall look.
Trimming certain areas can make it look neater. If it looks good
on you then it's not a no-no. But if the only reason your trimming
is because of a short-hair habit, well that's krazie. Maybe you
could try letting it grow and see what it looks like.
Hope this helps :-)
Every 3 weeks or seems a bit extreme to me. If you want properly long hair, you've gotta give it time to grow between trims. I'd say 3 or so months.
If you carry on with it every 3 weeks, the area that's being trimmed will never grow.

I'd give yourself a little more time to breath, I'm a maintanence trim advocate, but not that often. Even if your hair is still really short you wanna wait atleast 6-8 weeks between trims. Get used to a little fuzziness around your ears and neckline... it stands you in good stead for the future.
If you hair is getting some length to it, then let the back n sides grow a bit... otherwise you'll just end up with a mushroom cut...
The whole idea behind maintenance trims is to keep your hair "inshape" whilst you grow out. As you make progress you should increase the time between trims.
