You could well be, I'll prepare a medal for you! I like to wear my beanies and fisherman-style hats in the winter.
I never wear a hat either, so you are not the only one. (Actually I think the hair rather helps trap-in much heat.)
Me Neither, but I live in sub-tropics, it never gets cold here... still I've never been a hat person, not even when I lived in Britain.

I'll wear a hat with a brim to protect my nose from long days in the sun, or to protect my head from rain. I'll also wear a wool cap in a sleeping bag when camping to add extra warmth. But just when out and about otherwise, no.
It is seldom below 40 above F, 5 above C, here, but when it approaches those temperatures, it's definitely nippy out. I find that the bandanna I usually wear contributes quite a bit to my staying warm. It protects an inch wide swath across my forehead from contact with cold air, and it also holds my hair down reasonably tight to my head, giving me all the insulation of a wool cap there!
Below the bandanna, my hair keeps my ears warm and my neck warm. My beard keeps the lower part of my face and my lower neck warm. All that added warmth that the hair-impaired miss out on really helps my body stay warm overall. Because of that, I am not going to miss a hat as soon as one of those guys, even if all the insulating I mentioned above did not occur.
One day I was standing out in front of the house with my partner. I was wearing nothing but jeans and a T-shirt. My bare feet were planted on the sidewalk. A guy walked by all bundled up like an eskimo. I said to my partner, "To look at him and me, you'd think we were on different continents." My partner replied, "Well, I know that guy, and he is bald. He is probably COLD!"

I recommend wearing hats.
If your hair is very dry and you are at the awkward stage, you can wear hats to cover it. especially if u have hair that gets all over the place. Put on a hat, Let it stay there for 1 hour. Take it off after 1 hour and feel your hair.
It will feel soft and smooth. It wont feel dry, and majorty of the hair that was all over the place will now be in place.
I dont know the science behind that, but it works.
But I dont recommend wearing hats all the time 24/7. You are gonna grow bald faster if you do.

As a dedicated hat wearer of the 24/7 variety in a hat family with a long line of hatted males to observe, I would hate to think you scare someone off hats with the old wives' tale about hats leading to baldness. It does not work that way.
Oh, and my guess on the hat effect you notice would be the moisture from your scalp accumulates within the hat and keeps your hair from feeling dry.

Hats are for fun in addition to being useful for protecting hair.
I hate wearing hats. Even if the mercuary is hiding at the bottom of the thermometer I will not wear one. But I do agree that it probably causes damage to the hair if it is extremely cold and dry (low relative humidity), the air would be like a sponge and sucks up any available moisture.
