Friends,
Any recommendations for combs or brushes for fine (as in not thick),
straight hair?
I have been using a cheap plastic comb with teeth that are spaced,
well, not real close together, but not wide like some combs I have seen in stores. I also occasionally use one of those round
brushes, shaped like a tube with plastic bristles all around it.
I don't use the brush so much now because I produce so much
electricity, I could supply power to Boston. :-)
I look at these tools and think that there must be something better
but there are so many choices and styles and materials.
My hair does not tangle often, it's about shoulder blade length,
straight as a rail.
I just need a few recommendations to help narrow the choices down,
Thanks!
Try using a pick. It has long teeth unlike a regular comb and is able to reach through dense long hair very effectively. Absalom
Absalom,
Thanks for replying, my hair is neither dense, nor long for that
matter (when compared to yours!) :-) I have no problems at all
with tangles.
It sounds like we have the same type of hair...when wet I use fingers first, then a wide tooth comb (available in any beauty supply store, sometimes called a detangling comb). The round brush you describe is not necessary...try a flat brush or paddle brush for use when your hair is dry. These brushes (which are flat and about 3x5 inches) create minimal drag and breakage and give a mini-scalp massage at the same time! Just know that the cheaper brushes have rough plastic bristles that are sometimes not capped and can pull and break the hair.
Scaredresser,
Ahh, that's good to hear!
Same here - except I misplaced my wider toothed comb so I've been
carefully using the medium tooth plastic comb mentioned above.
That's good info, thanks!
With hair of our type, would it be best to use a brush with more
flexible bristles? Like one of those natural bristle brushes?
hey...
I have used both kinds and have found that the trick lies less with the type of brush but more with how you brush. My fave flat brush has rigid bristles spaced about 1/4inch apart (approx 20 x 10 bristles) on an air cushioned base that makes each bristle move independantly of each other. Take gentle care when brushing...always starting from the bottom and working slowly up, never ripping through tangles. Give the scalp a good brushing too. Phew...I hope that made sense!
