As a follow-up to my report on an instance of positive reinforcement at a LAN fest, I have taken photos of my two years (24 months) of uninterrupted hair growth. These photos were taken this very morning.
The first photo of this series ought to display with this text (I am facing the camera at a slight angle). The two remaining photos focus on the back and rear sections of my hair so as to better document its length.

By the way, I recently attempted to fasten my hair in a ponytail by holding my hair in one hand and tying a lace string around the bunched hair. Although most of my hair stayed put, several locks from the side of my face weren't quite fastened within the lace, so they hung by my face; I hope that I will not have to continue growing my hair for too long until those locks will be long enough that I can easily tie them with the rest of my hair.
How do you go about fastening a pony tail using a hair elastic? When I bunch my hair together with one hand, I find it very difficult to slide the elastic down my hair to the point where I'm holding it together without having strands of hair make their way overtop the elastic. My fear is that if I twist the elastic to fasten it in place, the strands of hair that fell overtop the elastic may become twisted as well and/or pulled.
Very Nice. Your hair reminds me very much of my buddy's hair
(ex-Vital Remains guitarist/founder) before he cut it. The long hair definatly suits you, and just looks awsome in general.
Thank you for your encouragement. I took a quick look at some pics of the band you mentioned; is Tony Lazaro the guitaurist you were referring to?
uh no actually, his name is Paul Flynn (forgot to type that in) I dont know if there are many pictures on the web that include him in it but he had hair very similar to yours (from what I see anyway)
Have you trimmed your hair at all? I have the same hair type as you and have been growing for i believe 18 months kinda lost track. Anyways its about the same length as yours in the back but the sides and front are well passed my shoulders? Where as yours seem rather shorter then your back?
I have not trimmed nor cut my hair in all of the 24 months that I have been growing it. As far as the length of my front/side hair is concerned, yes, I believe your observation to be correct: My hair seems longer at the back than it does at either of those places. My guess is that my front/sides may be particularly suseptable to spiraling. Then again, perhaps I've slowed down the growth hair from those areas by moving those locks to the back of my head and keeping them in that area by virtue of the bandanas I wear. I wear bandanas since I do not yet feel comfortable tying my hair into a ponytail.
Hair still looks cool though. Ya who knows with hair so many unexplained mysteries hah.
First of all, your hair looks great, and I congradulate your patience over the past 2 years. You do need to grow maybe 3 more inches onto your hair to make it easier to put it into a ponytail. The best hair bands to use are made of soft terry cloth and do not damage your hair. Gather your hair together and hold it with one hand. While holding the band in your other hand spread the band and press it against the hair bundle and pull your hair through the band from the top. Rotate the spread band 1/2 turn and pull the hair through a second time. It takes a little practice to learn how to tie a ponytail but once you know how it is very easy. Absalom
Absalom beat me to the ponytail tie explanation, and explained
it better than I. This is what I was about to post;
Grasp ponytail with left hand
With right hand, have ponytail tie strung between thumb and forefinger
Spread thumb & forefinger of right hand apart and 'pinch'
the base of hair column held by left hand, you will be 'pinching'
the hair between left hand and back of your head.
Hook finger from left hand onto ponytail tie, with right hand pull
hair held by thumb & forefinger through ponytail tie.
Make a single twist of ponytail tie using left hand finger, push
left thumb into loop so that the tie is now strung between thumb
and forefinger of left hand.
Again pinch the base of hair column, this time with tie held by
left hand
Pull hair held by left thumb & forefinger through this second loop.
Looking good! Grats!
Your question about how to tie a ponytail led me to make a video demo. Look for it as a new thread, because it benefits anyone needing to know how, too.
Thanks! I look forward to seeing this video, instructor san.
Correction: I suppose "sensei" is more or less what I meant to say regarding that "instructor san" remark.
Personally, I prefer "My Master".

Get ready to laugh.
In celebrating two years worth of uninterrupted hair growth, I've decided to disclose some very embarassing photos of what I used to look like. I'm one of the least superficial people that I know, but I have no doubt that I've lived most of my life looking like a dork. You may not see evidence of this past so much in my second picture as you'll see it in the first.
I hope that these photos will fulfill no less than the following functions:
1) They'll demonstrate that patience can be a virtue.
2) They'll illustrate how pathetic a life can be if you are docile and allow others to live your life for you.
Without further ado, here are two photos that are regrettably accurate reflections of the 'individual' I used to be:

Photo2: http://www.photo.net/photodb/image-display?photo_id=2113806
As you can see by the date accompanying it, the second photo was taken not long before I decided that enough was enough and vowed to assert myself (Not solely through looks, although it could be said that my psysical transformation was representative of the behavioural changes that I made).
As for my first photo... Well... I think it speaks for itself. I am not surprised by the fact that girls expressed so little interest in me throughout my gradeschool and highschool years; I simply do not fit the mediocre, generic model that I (regrettably) attempted imposed upon myself in a vain attempt to fit in.
Their music may have gone mainstream, but I think these lyrics from The Offspring's "All I Want" do a fine job summing up my transformation:
Day after day,
your home life's a wreck.
The powers that be
just breathe down your neck
You get no respect.
You get no relief.
You gotta speak up
And yell out your piece!
So back off your rules,
Back off your jive,
Cause I'm sick of not living
To stay alive.
Leave me alone
I'm not asking a lot;
I just don't want to be controlled.
That's all I want!
How many times is it gonna take
'til someone around you hears what you say?
You've tried being cool
You feel like a lie.
You've played by their rules;
Now it's their turn to try.
So back off your rules,
Back off your jive
'cause I'm sick of not living
To stay alive
Leave me alone.
I'm not asking a lot;
I just don't want to be controlled
That's all I want!
No, your right you look like a completely different person.
I actually didn't think the second photo was you. I guessed you'd torn it from a magazine or something...
I think that look in the 2nd Photo suited you really well.
But full respect for the change, 2 years is a long time... Well grown!
Photo #2 was taken just as I was beginning the transformation of becomming an individual representative of myself (as opposed to a representation of the person that, um, 'certain people' wanted me to be). I agree that my look has changed between the time when photos 1 and 2 were taken (Apx. three years), but both those photos are impressions of a past that I would rather not go back to. Ever.
... Photo 1 will haunt me for the rest of my life because it is an accurate depiction of how I've spent most of my life being someone else's puppet. I was lying to myself as well as to others by putting on a facade throughout every one of those days. I sincerely hope that those photos ellicited some laughter: I'd be nice to know that some good ultimately came out of them.
Fantastic look-very sophisticated!
Nah, man. I've spent most of my life being manipulated by others; I lack self-confidence. Plus, the the left side of my face (around the upper cheek area) is scarred from the #@$%in acne I had as an adolescent.
