For about 3 years now ive been trying to grow my hair out off and on.
but, every time i choose to do it again it seems like no one wants to accept it. Personally I view being a longhair to be very natural. why would our hair even grow long if it did'nt surve any purpose. I can't stand having gelled hair anymore, it looks like im a person that i am not. Both my parents and my girlfriend don't like long hair on men. It took my a while, but, i finnally realized that it does'nt matter to me what anyone else thinks. I'm living my life the way I want to from now on. this site gave me soo much insight as to what really matters. me being happy. thanks for all the help!!

I totally agree with you man. It's in our genes to have long hair. It's important to do what you want to do and like what you really want to like, not what someone else tells you. And I mean that in a balanced kind of way, so sometimes it is good to fit in social standards, but other times you just have to think about yourself first.
Here's one of my favorite quotes:
"To see with one's own eyes, to feel and judge without succumbing to the suggestive power of the fashion of the day - is that not glorious?"
- Albert Einstein
Amen to that! I actually adopted his fashion sense shortly after graduating High School in 1990: I own several pairs of the same outfit (jeans and t-shirts) so I don't have to expend any thought on what I'm going to wear from day to day.
I was in the same boat, Sean. I am 40 years old now and last year I finally decided to let my hair grow. My mother, my son, everyone gave me a hard time. BUT now they all like it. I had always wanted long hair and seeing all these guys walking around with shaved heads finally made me go for it. After all I have to go against the grain!
It was the best thing I have ever done. I feel so complete now and a lot more confident about my looks. And not to mention the women are really liking it too. Good luck.

You only live life ONCE!!!! Go for it!!!!
Alas Sean-
Such seems to be life. Nobody ever appears to like something when it comes to "Social Standards." (And even these so-called standards seem to be all over the place at that!) I think you have made a wise choice in that you are choosing to be yourself without letting others "mold you" into what they think you should be. Good Luck growing out your hair and enjoying it! :-)
Awesome man the way I see majority of people on these board probaly see people for who they are and dont take social standards to highly. My parents and siblings do not like long hair on men nor do half the people I know and I too am sick of social standard bullshit. Who wants to fit into a mold of something there not?
