I'm in what you guys all call the awkward phase right now, although compared to some peoples posts mines not really to awkward (yet)! But I hope one of you might be able to help with a question that is currently nagging at me. My hair is now grown to the point that it covers my ears, and thanks to a "maintanence" cut a few months back it looks like a mushroom. I wonder could some one tell me at what point will this end i.e at what length will the fungal effect cease?

It depends on the texture of your hair. But figure to be leaving the awkward stage at somewhere between 9 to 12 inches of growth. That equates to 18 to 24 months total. Of course you can subtract the inches you already have and re-calculate. I'm not really sure what you mean by mushroom head, but that phase may end sooner.
