To help me decide on a final length I just wonder how those at waist length or below wear their hair - loose or tied? I'd really love to wear my hair loose when it's finally out of AS but is this practical at extreme lengths, esp with very thick, coarser hair?
Cheers,
Armin
Well you've got some time to plan this I guess. LOL
For practicality there are plenty of different ways for you to tie up your hair. I don't know if you've looked into this yet but I could find you some pics if you'd like and post appropriate links later.
You probably know this but you are not limited to loose hair or just a version of a pony tail - there's loads to choose from for tying up your length.
By the way... are you talking about day-to-day wear or for specific tasks (working around machinery etc)?

Hey, I'm planning on growing mine to waist length or longer and I'd be interested in those styles :)
Thanks, the pics would be great. I only know of 4 styles: loose, low/ high ponytail, half tail and braid.
Of course, for machinery etc I'd know to tie it back (don't want to have to be surgically removed from my car's engine!!) but I do mean for everyday wear, bec once I get out of this AS, I want to wear it loose most of the time.
Thanks, Armin
I wear mine down as often as I can, but my mood also plays a factor in that. I work in an office building, so the question of up or down really isn't a matter of practicality for me. It really depends on how much I want to fuss with my headset when the time comes to remove it so I can take my breaks.
;)
I wear it loose when I can, at work or when I'm doing soemthing that
the hair could get tangled up in I tie it in a pony tail.
My preference is loose not tied in a pony tail.
I have hair that is now at waist length, i've had it longer
previously,
I almost never wear my hair in a pony tail. Sometimes I'll braid it though. Usually I wear it down.
I've found out from my daughter, who gets irritated when my hair gets on her when we're sitting next to each other in a theater or something, that I need to pay attention to where my hair is when there are other people around. At times like these, I usually put at least a couple stitches of a braid in my hair.
In theaters, if the backrest is the right height, I'll wind my hair up into a roll and use it as a pillow.
It all depends on how tangle prone your hair is. Your hair will tangle much more in windy conditions so loose indoors may work but loose outdoors may not work. My hair is extremely tangle and knot prone so I keep multiple hair bands along its entire length. I have over 3 feet of ponytail to deal with (about 4 inches shy of the back of my knees) which is very unruly due to a mix of straight, wavy, and curly hair, not the ideal hair type to grow to maximum length. In addition I ride a bicycle at high speeds to stay fit. Without multiple hair bands I would have been lucky to reach 18 inches. Another option which works well for super long hair is to braid it. Braiding works extremely well for thick coarse hair such as yours and I would highly recommend it. Absalom
I had a knee length hair, I have cut it to mid back length. I usually used to french braid it.
Wear it loose to minimize scalp pulling and to enjoy having hair that long.
Tie it back or braid it only when necessary for working around moving parts or in hair tangling situations (wind, sweat, etc.)

Armin you are right that it's a great feeling leaving your hair loose. however there are loads of situatiins that may cause you problems so what I do is adopt a claer policy. For work I always plait my hair; it's neat, practical and cool. At home I leave it loose....feels great and that's the way hair should be. There is one other thing for special ocassions and that's to wear your hair in bunches. Part your hair left and right keeping it loose but in a tie around the neck line. This was considered a bit girlie a few years ago but now worn by more guys. ENJIOY!
This was considered too girly even for girls above the age of 6 a few years ago too. I got loads of stick for it before it became 'fashionable'. It's a good style and it looks great on men and women.
I don't understand this "bunches" style. Can you explain more or provide a pic?
I wear my hair loose. I'm careful to not let it get caught in things.
Ed
Same goes for arms and legs!
; )~
I prefer to keep it tied back into a pony tail so it won't fall into my eyes or irritate my face or get tangled in things I'm working on.
