I have near shoulder length hair and recently got a new job. My employer agreed that I did not need to cut it, but has insisted that I must wear it in a smart and formal style while at work. Due to the nature of the work it also must not go beyond collar length and hence a ponytail is not suitable. Any suggestions please.
A bun or some sort of variation on a French Twist sound in order. Maybe you could get one of those "hairdini" things?
Thanks JJ. I am now going to show my ignorance and ask for advice on putting my hair into a bun or French Twist - I have never done anything beyond a ponytail before. Also, what's a "hairdini" thing and where do I got one
Here's how you make a bun. Gather your hair like you would for a
ponytail. Twist the ponytail part of your hair like you're wringing
a towel dry. Make sure you're twisting your entire ponytail part as
far to the ends as you can. When you twist your hair enough, it will
start to "coil" around itself, starting at the part where you gathered
your hair. Once this happens, wrap your hair around where you
gathered your hair while making sure your hair is twisted to the ends.
For a tighter bun, you will want to continue to have your hair "coil"
around itself some more. Tuck the ends of your hair around where you
gathered your hair, and secure with a hairband.
A bun will look somewhat effeminate, a French twist more so. That is
one of the things you will have to decide for yourself at work.
Another alternative is to use a short hairstyle wig like Walter does
at his job.
Here is a link to here you can buy a hairdini. I have one, and I don't like it. I bought it at Eckerds, I think. Here's the URL. http://www.ontelevision.com/html/products_23.html
Better for braids is the EasyBraid kit. I have included a link below.
I see others have already jumped on these questions, so I won't repeat them. Suggestion: why not drop by a hair salon and explain your dilemma, and see what they suggest? Let them know what you're looking for (i.e. more feminine or masculine or unisex) and the pros there will probably have more suggestions for you.
There is a site (I can give you it later) where you can buy that and it won't be necessary to have a hair cut. To wear the wig, just make the ponytail, then wear a wig cap and then the wig. You will probably have a headache for the first two days until you get used to the wig, but I still prefer to keep my hair growing...

I hope you can find something that fits for you. Good luck.
Hello Pete,
My hair sounds the same length as yours. Recently I have plaited my hair into two braids, one on each side, like 'pigtails', and then brought the two braids together at the back and secured them with a black satin covered elestic band. The result is like a very short ponytail just about at collar length, but smart and much more interesting.
If you make each one a French braid, it looks even better. My partner helps me do this as I am not yet sufficiently dextrous to do this on my own.
Let us know how you get on.
Steve
