hey..does slpit ends affect the way ur hair grows? I heard it gorws slower and messier if u have them.
No and Yes ! Split ends do not affect the rate at which hair grows from the roots. BUT... split ends do reak off and then the splits travel back up the hairs. Eventually the breakage at the ends of hairs equals or exceeds the rate of growth. Then one's hair stops getting longer, or even starts to get shorter. Say it takes a year (6 inches of growth) for split ends to develop. Cutting one inch off the hair gets rid of the split ends. It then takes another year before new split ends develop, by which time one's hair has grown another 6 inches (minus the inch that was cut off).
I did a reluctant end trim a few weeks ago as I had split ends and my hair seemed to have stopped getting longer. Now, I'm sure it's getting longer again.
