Well, I've been looking at getting dreadlocks, and decided beyond a shadow of a doubt that I'm going to do it. I've heard of a few different methods, such as backcombing, and simply rubbing a woolen peice of clothing on your head. Anything I should know/try before I get dreads?
Also, is the woolen thing a good idea?
Perhaps (if you know others with Dreads) ask them every question about having Dreads that you can think of. I myself have seen some which in my own opinion are outstanding, and others a total failure. I would let a professional do the job to make sure it is done right. Good Luck.
Yes, Keep 'em clean. Also you should know (and you probably already do) that dreads are permanent. Once their in, there's no coming out without cutting it pretty short.
When I had my dreadlock "Hubert" I washed it about once a week, and towel dried it then blow dried just the dread. It got too difficult to do so I cut it eventually.
Ahh, not really. It works ok for black people who have the really tight kinky hair, but unless you have that, it tends to just mat it all up and make it look like crap. I'd personally recommend the backcombing method.
Good luck and let me know how it went!
