Ok, first let me say I enjoy this sight and value the opinions of other long hairs out there. Here is my situation; I have 1 year of hair growth to this day. I use to color my hair and the colored part is damaged. I have probably 2 to 3 inches of my natural color. I can either color it again and deal with the whole damaged color hair look or I can get a cut and get rid of the color and start fresh with my natural color. If I get is cut I plan on NOT coloring it again and go with my natural color and undamaged hair. I'm still on a mission of growing it as long as I possibly can. So do I color the 4 inch at the end or cut it and start fresh. Please respond soon as a pending 1630 haircut is in process. By the way of course my wife and family would lean toward the cut. I need my brothers in arms to give me any advice or twist on this matter.
I would say color it again, because that's a years time bud!
But if you actually want your natural color then I would say cut it and let the 4 inches you have grow out. You know as well as I do that the awkward stage is no fun though :(
Good luck with your decision
Ask yourself, what colour you want your hair:
Natural? Then cut and start over. A year will pass pretty quick and 4 inches is 3 inches more than I started with 12 months ago.
Coloured? Then colour the new growth and get a good conditioning treatment for the damaged length.
Answer that one you'll know what to do.
I wish you would say what your natural color is because haircoloring products do not all give the same results.
If you are going for a dark to medium brunette....try Colorsilk.
Are we allowed to name specific products on this forum?
Anyway:
Revlon Colorsilk is very inexpensive and the brunette shades are good.
The conditioning packet that is in the box is very good.
If I were you I would just dye it back to natural color and deep condition your hair. At least I think it would be easier.
Well, if you want to feel especially catholic about it you could do penance by not dying your hair OR cutting it, just letting it grow out two toned. I wouldn't recommend it though.
I've been having my hair professionally colored the entire time I've been growing mine with no damage (currently 33"). My hair is mostly grey :-)
I highly recommend you spend the money and have it professionally done. You wear you're hair everyday. Think about what you spend on a pair of pants, shoes, etc. Too many people want to save money when it comes to their hair, even though they are always wearing it.
I'd get a professional opinion on how damaged it is right now. Then you also have to consider why colored your hair in the first place. If you won't be happy with your natural color, then coloring might be an option.
Just my 2 cents....
More like $2.00!
Great advice!
I'm always amazed when people don't mind spending a hundred bucks on a dinner date, but don't want to pay more than $5.95 for a hair cut.
Question, Mick - have you decided top stop coloring and that's why you're mostly grey now? I've been so tempted to just give up on coloring, but I'm not so sure about letting the grey take over completely.
I'm mostly grey...that's EXACTLY why I get it colored. (My wife does not want a husband with long, grey hair (especially at my age). I'd be coloring my hair even if it was short. I think 30-something is too young to be grey :-)
OMG. I had no clue! You have a very talented hair stylist indeed! With all the different nuances of color in your hair, I'd have never guessed!
And it is in such good condition! None of the damage you would expect from coloring! Wow. I am in awe.
