My hair has always been fine on top, on the crown, but thick and curly
on the sides, back and front. In the last 18 months it has got finer and there is less of it on top. I want to keep my hair long as it looks cool when its blowdried straight and waxed back. But I don't want to lose hair. I am interseted in using the product propecia as
it claims to produce great results. I know that it might have side
effects, do any of you know much about it? have friends who used it?
or know of other products that have worked for people. When I cut
my hair short, I don't suddenly want to be seen as clearly balding
as now I'm known for having a great head of hair and I'm only 23.
Any help much appreciated.
I have used it for about 2 years and I think it has helped. But remember this is anecdotal evidence! The stats say that it works for a certain fraction of men but not for all. You will have to try it to see.
thanks for reply - 2 things. have you noticed any side effects, and
do you think it has stopped loss and helped regrowth or just stopped
loss? thanks, J.
For me it has helped reduce hair loss and now it seems I am not losing anymore hair, but after almost 4 years of using the product it has also made my boobs bigger.
Can't really tell, but I think the losses were certainly slowed or stopped.
Fortunately, I have no personal experience with propecia or any realted product.
However, I have read that once you start on one of these products, you can't stop.
Consider that in advance. It can be quite costly.
Propecia (finesteride) has actually been on the market for a number of years, but marketed under "Proscar". The difference is the dosage. Proscar came out as a treatment for BPH (prostate hypertrophy). It is effective and side effects include hair growth, erectile dysfunction and breast enlargement (as already mentioned) in some men. The dosage for Proscar is 5mg. Well, they found that giving only 1mg (i.e. 1/5 the dose) helped hair growth without some of the other sides effects. And, in search of the almighty dollar, Propecia was born.

I've been using Propecia for six years now. It stopped further balding dead in its tracks and even caused partial regrowth in the area that had already thinned. I've nad no side effects. Now, a new study has found that long term use of Propecia significantly reduces the chance of getting prostrate cancer. In my opinion, this is a miracle drug! As far as not being able to stop once you start - you can stop anytime you want, but if you do, you will lose the hair that it saved.
