I have been told that the shape of my face (long oval)
is not compatible with long hair or updo as this lengthened
even more my face. Is there any truth about this? Anyway
cannot long faces be beautiful? I love my curly hair, it was
always voluminous with a side parting. I never grew it long
as I succombed to the need to have a haircut for a change.
But I alwys regretted and tried growing it again. This time,
since I found this site I think I will manage to resist to
cut my hair and it may be more manageable when long
and less curly with the weight. I have opted for a middle
parting and it may make the face less long? What do you think?
Please give me feedback. THANKS
Length is of little consequence if your face is oval (nature's most perfect shape). Considering just your face, however, a center parting will "LENGTHEN" an already long face; you might be better off keeping the side part. Getting back to the oval...consider your ENTIRE (above-the-neck) image. With hair short, curly and voluminous at the top of your head the "oval" is like an egg standing on its narrow end. BUT, as your hair grows and the weight "straightens" the hair at the top of the head and volumes of curls sit on your shoulders, the "oval" will then look like an egg standing on its wider end. Though your basic image changes (short hair grown to long) the oval remains an oval--merely inverted. And whether it is a long oval or short oval is of little consequence. Grow for it!!
Great feedback in favour of long hair (to be expected of course) to my long face. Actually, I had never heard that oval was ideal? Is that so?
Could I learn more FACTS about what are the effects of partings (middle, side, none, zigzag, wavy etc) for the harmony of the (long) face and the proportions of the whole with
curly hair?
Thanks
I, too, have a long, oval-shaped face and curly hair. I used to keep my hair cut very short...often buzzed during the summer. I've been letting mine grow since November 2002. Sometimes I blow-dry it straight, other times I go curly. But regardless, the compliments have been overwhelming. People say longer hair suits me better, and not a single person has said they preffer me with short hair over long. I agree with BRGallagher: Grow for it!
Cheers,
Jeremy
The "Oval" has long been considered the "ideal" by the professionals. Those that have an "Oval Face" are in the drivers seat so to speak when it comes to making anything look well. BUT..........we have seen time after time after time how any shaped face seems to benefit from the looks of Long Hair.

like I wrote, when you consider the entire above-the-neck image, long hair OF ITSELF almost always creates an oval...hence the compliments, etc. Long hair is definitely the way to go, in my opinion.
I think there's a little truth in what you've been told. But mostly its not true.
First (and I think a few others have already mentioned this) Oval shaped faces are considered the best shaped face to have.
Two... Long hair suits all face types, its natures way after all, and nature usually has a beautiful symetry to it.
Three, I have a long but more angular face, by having long hair which falls around my head, it softens my features and helps mask my "pointy devil chin." But if I tie my hair back, this effect is lost. (But with short hair, I didnt get the benefits I get now.)
Make Sense?
Maybe tie the hair into a ponytail and grow a goate? Many long hair styles and beard styles and clothing colors and styles can help in finding a style that works for you.
I too have wondered about this. My face is also oval and I have thick wavy(almost curly) hair. Thanks for bringing it up.
I have to agree with Tim B. - growing a goatee has done a lot for me I think. I usually gel my hair back, behind the ears and leave it loose about the shoulders and people have told me that this looks very good. I think its more about experimenting with hairstyles rather than not having long hair.
The KEY word here is LONG oval. It's quite possible that
those who 'critiqued' your face didn't mean 'oval' at all!
After all, these people aren't 'experts' at describing shapes, right?
Some say long hair doesn't go with round or square or this or that.
But unless they really know what they are talking about,
they are just guessing.
Grow your hair and see if YOU like it!

You have a beautiful face and beautiful hair, but facial hair does not suit you IMO. You look much better without facial hair.
