He would have had to sooner or later anyway since he's supposed to play Willy Wonka in the Tim Burton directed remake of "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". This version is supposed to follow the book more closely and will have a more sinister quality to it.

Not necessarily. If you want to grow your hair, grow it. Who cares what other people are doing. Even if I was the last person on this earth with long hair, as long as I was happy then that would be all that was important.
