Victor and I have worked up some new features for the Hyperboard.
Major changes are....
The Directory of Users is now tied into the Hyperboard. If you are in it and use your e-mail address to post, your picture will appear in the upper left hand corner as mine has in this message. Clicking on a user's small picture will take you to his home page or to photos of him.
You can now upload one photo of 50k or less in size right from your computer into your message! No need to find a place to store your photos anymore. If your photo is bigger than 50k, you will have to use a photo program to shrink it first.
You can still link photos of any size, of course, where the photos are stored on your own site.
Photos included in either way will cause this notation to be included in the subject of the message: [PIC] This will let users know you've included a photo.
If you want to see what other messages a user has posted, there is now a feature on new messages called "other posts". Just click on the link to ask for the system to calculate which other posts on the system are likely from that user.
Bill
Since you read MOST messages without replying to them, we have eliminated the box underneath each message for you to reply to. Instead, we have put a link there. This will halve the time it takes messages to load! However, if you want to post, remember that now you have to click on that link. When you do, you will get a box to reply in, just like you always have seen.
EXISTING messages will not have that feature, however. They will still have the box at the bottom for a reply. This box does not offer the opportunity to upload a photo with your message, however, since those messages and their reply boxes were created before we added this feature. In a month or two, all of those messages will have worked their way off the board.

The photo you see above I uploaded directly from my computer to the hyperboard site. You can now include one such photo in any message you post. It has to be less than 50k in size.
We should be seeing more hair on here now!

Hey Bill and Victor,
Thanks for the great upgrades to the site! Very nice!
my sincere gratitude, Pete
p.s. pic is 18 months of growth from a shaved head.
Looks good!
I've just added your pic to the directory of users so it will show in your posts. We will try to do this when guys upload photos of themselves. But we may miss some of you that way.
If any of you want to be sure you get in the directory, just go to the link:
Hey, Pete, now I see you asked to join before I did that! You're in, with the pic you submitted.
We now have 38 longhairs in the list:
...This is great, good work guys.
The boards looking great Bill - I think these updates are brilliant.
Cheers
Thanks, man. You're being a web developer makes your comment doubly sweet. [grin]
And thanks to Clarkelane and Crystallized Fate in this thread and others who have with their positive comments made me feel the efforts were very worthwhile!
Bill
Great job to the both of you! The new features has a nice clean look and feel.
Thanks!
What many might not have noticed is that the main page and the messages now load twice as fast. It takes a lot less time to zip through several messages than it did before. You'll spend more time reading (fun!) and less time waiting for pages to load (not fun).
The software as it came "out of the box" generated the main page with twice the amount of text than was necessary. The half that was invisible text was only there to be read by the software, so we figured out ways to have the software get by without it.
We got rid of the "reply box" underneath each message because for every time a message is read, only 2% might reply to it. This meant that 98% of the people were waiting for the reply box to load when they wouldn't even need it, and the reply box was half the size of the file! Now we just give that box to the 2% who request it.
Bill,
The changes are very worthwhile. Thank you and Victor for coming up with these. The "other posts" feature is a new one to me and handy for finding a particular recent post by someone since I tend to read then respond later. I love the mini-photo option too. Your lupine picture is my particular favorite of yours. :-)
Thank you for your work!
