i hate abrbers
went in for a trim
chopped of 4 inches!!!
Ouch! Sorry to hear that man, 4 inches is a helluvalot. :(
How much hair do you have left? (Sorry, but I'm trying to put this into proportion - if I lost 4 inches I'd consider myself back to square one.)
Word to the wise: Barbers are best avoided - they know one thing: SHORT HAIR.
Whilst futher trims are probably the furthest thing from your mind at the moment, in the future, try a Salon. They tend to have stylists with a more open approach to cutting hair - find one who understands your goals and stick with him/her.
You silly boy, that's why you go to a stylist. Barbers only know two words: crew cut.
Barber, stylist, what ever you call them
they do what they want to do not what the
customer wants.
I've had more times where i went to more Barbers stylists, etc.
who were told in very explicit terms I want something specific
done (trim 1"). That 1" invariably turns into 12" or more.
It took a lot of years to finally find a stylist who
did what I wanted done.
i wore a mono' human hair wig often when so-called great hairstylist cut my beautiful wavy long hair too short.
everybody believed it was my real hair. lol

I would not recomend barbers when trying to grow out your hair. You need to find a salon professional.
I went to the stylist on Saturday, I guess that's what you could call it, and I asked just for one inch to get the ends cleaned up. The ends were getting tangled too much and was going to cause more damage in the long run. I asked for one inch. I told her my reason. I asked her opinion, and when she said what I wanted to hear, I double checked and I let her cut. Settle everything before you get into that chair.
yes that is the thing, make sure that who ever is doing your hair knows and understands what you want done.
also find a barber/stylist that you can trust
years ago there use to be a barber were I live that
suprisingly knew how to do long hair he was good at doing the usall crew cuts and other short hair cuts but if you had long hair and only wanted a trim to tidy things up he would only cut off 1/4 to 1/2 of an inch sometimes even less than that
There's a project for somebody: create a directory of stylists who have clue.
Whislt this is terrible and puts you back on avg 8 month!!... how did it happen?!.... I mean what did you say to the barber!?.....maybe he just had something against guys with long hair... plus you shoulda really went to a hairdressers as they're used to dealing with long hair, as opposed to barbers who just do basic short cuts. Although if your hair is very long then 4" may not be that bad....didnt you notice when he went to cut it that it looked like way too much?
Hello Hairlord,
A friend who trained as a hairdresser once said the definition of "trim" in the trade means to cut up to the level of any damaged hair. I don't know how widespread that practice is but it may explain why you and the barber were speaking different languages.
I am sorry this happened to you, it should not have. Next time tell the person up front that if they cut more than requested and agreed upon they are stealing from you. The time it took to grow those inches are lost to you and not of your choosing. I have known a person that writes a contract to be signed by someone cutting their hair to ensure the job is understood. To head off any disagreements about the original length a person can hold onto an uncut segment of the hair to compare against the mostly completed style. I think that would get the haircutter's attention.

There are quite a few longhaired women who will only let barbers trim their long hair, because they will...
1. Cut it while it's dry
2. Will only cut as much as you ask
3. Don't want to talk you into other types of styling
A lot of these women find that they cannot trust a "stylist" like they can a barber. Maybe you just didn't communicate enough with the one you chose to go to?
Well, here's the thing
1) im in Pakistan, so the distinction in "stylist" and "barber" is a lil blurred here... in either case, lemme now correct it by saying the STYLIST took off 4 inches!!! :(
how? well i go for a trim, he neatens the split ends etc up, everythings perfectly clean, and now im getting up he suggests i get em cut even further...but i was happy with my current length (chin) and said no screw it.
in either case, while doing the sides (trim) , his hand "accidentaly" slipped taking off 4 from the TOP!!!!!!!! :@
in either case that looked pathetic and i had no choice but to get the rest lowered a bit as well :(
so now i have hair till my lip!!! :(
on the plus side mine grows in at 3/4 of an inch per month so its not that bad...was just looking forward to going back to skool in auguest with shoulder length hair though :(
lastly, a bunch of questions:
my hair are a bit wavy, genetically...but now that theyre shorter they seem wavier then ever..is it just that theyre more noticeable now? wen i grow em longer, i THINK they seem to get straighter..can that happen or is that just me???
thankx
No, it's not just you. The extra weight makes the hair straighter. Mine is wavy too, and one thing I like about long hair is that I don't have to worry too much about it curling in the wrong direction. Of course, it's also fine, so wearing it long means I get split ends, but you can't have everything!
