Hey Guys:
It's been awhile since I posted, but I've still been frequenting the board alot. My hair right now is at shoulder blade length and I think I'll reach mid back by the fall. However, last week I noticed a problem. Something that I thought would never happen to me. My hairline is starting to recede. It's receding in the strangest place. Smack dab in the middle of my forehead where my hairline starts. It almost looks as if the hair that was there was ripped out. No one has even noticed it yet because it is not receding alot. It's almost lke a half an inch square has been cut out of my hairline. I'm only 22 and I never expected my hair to start doing this at such a young age. What I think my problem may be is that I'm wearing my hair in a ponytail too much. I only wear it down like once a week. I've been doing this style now for about 3 years. I slick my hair back with water and gel and tie the tail back with a normal "Goody" brand thin black elastic with no metal on it. I'm trying to wear it down while I'll sleep but it gets itchy and then it's all tangled in the morning. Cutting my hair is something I NEVER want to do. I hope this receding is just temporary from wearing the "tail" too much...Apocieia(sp?) Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

...you post a picture? That would help to see if it looks like it's receding.
Yes this does sound like the result of tension from a band. The greatest tension when holding back your hair would reside in the front hairs as they will be further in distance to the band and also you would be forcing the folicles in this region to shift furthest away from their equilibrium, combining the tension it would rip them out. I'm trying to think of the mathematical reason for this but my head is just cabbaged from revision : (
Try loosening your band, or using a none elastic band as this would increase the tension as it natual shifts to find its own equilibrium.
How about wearing ponytails where the fringe (bangs?) aren't in the tail and just hang down? Or would this not look good/feel annoying?
Hey man,
i agree it is prolly due to the ponytail tension ripping the hair out.
U say u only wear it out like once per week. Why is that? Whats the point in having long hair if u keep it tied back all the time?
I think i used to have this problem, i just used less harsh hair ties and wear my hair down usually except at work. Oh and dont tie ur hair back when it is wet, like after u wash it, i think that is also bad for it as it is weaker then.
Peace:)
