Hi,
Because I was a shorthair all of my life and am now a longhair-wannabe, I need to ask for details about shampoos/conditioners: what each is for specifically, when to use them, and how often.
Previously, I used to only shampoo my hair every couple of days. Recently I have been using something that is a "combination" of both. However, I feel that this should probably change as it seems like my hair feels lighter and possibly dryer than it does after several days with only water.
Please let me know what to do and also how to tell whether my hair is doing better or worse. That way I won't have to keep asking you guys. ;-)
Thanks
Hey man,
I think shampoo and conditioner habits are quite individual. I have to shower every morning because I have sensitive skin, so my scalp (and hair) have to be included there.
However, I can manage to go a day without washing my hair, and my hair actually feels fine, so I'm sure there's no problem not shampooing every day.
I would condition once every 4 or 5 days, because my hair is generally manageable, and conditioning every day increases build-up with most brands - remember to change your brand if you notice any build-up.
If your hair is feeling dry, there are plenty of options - some people use hydrating shampoos or conditioners, or moisturising ones like Dove. There are spray-on conditioners for after your shower, you can use coconut oil or a base oil of some kind. Best to start with something simple like the hydrating conditioner or coconut oil (which works best for me).
Other than that, it's mostly down to finding what suits your hair best - pretty much a trial and error thing, but it's not too hard to find out what's most comfortable for you.
good luck.

I would say change formulations. Switching brands can sometimes leave you with the same or nearly the same formulation. And it's usually possible to switch formulations while remaining with the same brand.
I'm probably going to sound like a dope, but what exactly do you mean by "formulations?"
By Formulations (formulae) Victor means the different lines or types of a product each brand produces, eg:
Pantene - has an: Antidandruff formula; a smooth & sleek formula; a dry hair formula; a clarrifying formula etc.
[Not that I recommend Pantene - It sucks - its just easy to spot the different lines on the supermarket shelf.]
Right. It's not the label that matters but the chemicals inside the bottle. Two different brands could very well have virtually identical contents. This happens frequently with off-brand products. In fact, sometimes the products are even manufactured on the same assembly line, just packaged differently.
Well I'll be damn :) That thought never entered my mind. Thanks for sharing!

I shampoo and condition every two days. Sometimes conditioning everyday as I find my hair can get very tangled when I get out the shower.
But this is really a question of what works best for you.
I'd experiment with different brands until you find ones that suit, though supermarket brands seem to be worst for drying out your hair.
