Great Clips is doing a promotion locally for $4.99 haircuts. I have had about 10 or so people remind of this. Some are people I work with; others are friends. It is amazing to me how brave or arrogant people are with their opinions.
I have been growing out my hair since December. It is way shorter than most here on the board but I am trying. I used to go for a haircut every 2 weeks. Going on 6 months, I am realizing how cool it is to have hair. I have thick dark hair, the longest strands are 4 inches or so... So I have a ways to go to get to the length of some of you all.
Anyway, I am amazed at people's attitudes.
Steve
My hair sounds about like yours in length and texture, and it's been several months since I got a real haircut (which was only to make the boss happy). I did have my mom trim a little off the back, just so it would be in proportion to the rest (no mullets for me!)
I was getting a lot of those comments when it was really looking nasty. Then I figured out to use conditioner and not rub it dry with a towel, and now it's looking much better. There's stil a few people at school, mostly the annoying preppy ones, who have to remind me to get a haircut. What's funny is one of them was actually starting to grow it out, it was about 1/2" behind mine in length, but he just cut it this weekend. Right before he got his cut I noticed he increased the rate of harrasement on me.
Just don't let them get to you and you'll be fine.

Why don't you suggest to them that they GROW THEIR hair?!
Wonder what their reaction would be/
Hi, I think the especially nasty part of the message is that they are essentially assuming that you are too cheap to get a haircut. As if you were wanting to get one, but only if it was cheaper than a Big Mac combo at MacDonalds.
A similar kind of story, there is a hair salon within the university community center here and they were having a deal on haircuts for the month of December. $7 or so (Canadian). A closer look at the ad for the promo told me that the ad was for buzzcuts only. A couple friends went there but there is no way in hell that I would go to a place with advance knowledge that the stylists prefer buzzcuts on guys.
Hey Steve,`
People are strange and do stupid things all the time, don't let that move you. I've seen your hair grown out before and it was pretty awesome. Plus you have some serious blue eyes to back up the crazy wave that becomes so pronounced on your grown out hair. Good luck buddy and hang in there. Do you have any progress pics you could share?

Answer back that since you are trying to grow it longer their suggestion would be counter productive to your goal...then add a "Don't 'cha think?"
hahahaha!
nice one!
I wouldn't let anyone near my hair for $4.99 !
I know what you mean - I get that attitude from my whole family.
When I had long hair before, they hated it, and now that I'm growing again, they're not happy about it.
My mother now adds to the 'how are you going to make money?' comment with 'and when are you going to cut your hair?'
And my aunt, who is more pass-remarkable than anyone I've ever met, adds to her 'You look awful today' comment (she says it every time I see her) with 'You really don't suit longer hair'.
I think no matter where you go, someone's going to volunteer a comment that nobody wants to hear. My usual responses (given my talent for snappy comebacks) is, in between plenty of swear words, to tell them that while my hair can be cut at any stage, they will remain ugly FOREVER muwahahahahaha!

Excellent! That's a good one. I'll use that if I ever get any wise-ass comments but believe it or not, it has never happened.
So true. I have not had a haircut for 17 months, and I still get those types of comments. It's kind of funny now. I just let it roll off my back.
