Hail to all!
My hair is so fine and thin, I notice it easily gets tangled with other hairs...it's almost like they twine together. This is especially a problem for me when I comb my hair...so I was wondering if anyone here has a special technique when combing their hair, especially if it's thin and fine like...how do you comb through without getting tangled up? It's odd, because normally I hear about people with curly hair and their tangles...but as a straight haired person I find I get just as many twining/tangle problems.

Get a porcupine brush, and when you brush, start from the ends and gradually work your way to the roots. If the hair is tangled so much that it's matting, gently spread out the mat with your fingers to grant some access to the brush. Apply the brush to the periphery of the mat first, then gradually work your way into it, always spreading it out with your fingers as you go.
I've become expert at detangling this kind of hair since my daughter has very thick, very fine hair that starts to mat very readily, especially at the back of the neck.
In case you don't know what a porcupine brush is, I've included a picture here. They are available in several brands. They usually have dark brown or black bristles that are either plastic or board bristles, interspersed with flexible, white, plastic bristles that are longer.
Make sure you get the kind made with boar bristles.
I also have very fine hair but I have alot of it so Its quite thick which for me means tangling and knots from the simplest of things. Either I brush through the ones that are brushable. Or I have to sit and go through the major knots by hand hopefully not tearing any hair.
to use a good conditioner (to detangle the hair).
And when you comb or brush start with the ends
then work your way up slowly toward the scalp.
Good Luck!
Arn't you supposed to brush your hair down, towards that tip, rather than the tip to the top?... I've always brushed downwards... Have I missed something?
You comb down, but you start doing that with the last few inches of your hair. Then once there are no tangles in that hair, you move upward a few inches and comb down from there. Any loose hair you pick up there will not NOT ram itself into tangles further down because there aren't any there anymore. You combed those tangles out just before. So the latest loose hair strands will just side down past your ends. (Clean them out of your brush or comb at this moment; you don't want to reinsert them in your hair when you start your next downward stroke.)
Eventually, as you move up your hair, you will get to the top.
Also, if your hair is too thick to comb through all of it, you can apply this "work upwards" technique on segments of it.
Happy combing!
