It seems like when you have short hair you want it to be long, and when it's long you want it to be short-the "grass is always greener" syndrome. I've got hair down to the middle of my back (and I'm pretty tall too) so thre initial thrill and wanting it to grow longer is overwith. Since it's so damn long, I occasionally panic and think about shaving my head, but always manage to calm back down. At any rate I think I need to get a few inches cut off. Any tips on dealing with it are much appreciated.
I get the impression that you never have had a clear picture of which length you wanted to reach and maybe now you've 'overshot' your initial goal. On the other hand, you may have stumbled on the second 'trap' in growing your hair: boredom, a well-known fenomenon for women who are trying to grow their hair down to their knees or longer.
To me the secret to growing and maintaining long hair is the answer to the question if you have long hair 'between the ears'. If the answer is "yes", you'll find motivation to continue growing and caring for it. If not, eventually you'll start to discard it more and more and maybe end up doing something drastic like shaving your head. Look back over the years and try to find out if you like wearing long hair and if so, try to establish at what length you liked it best. That's my advise, yours is the decision.
You've brought to mind an odd phenomenon I found with myself. I've always been attracted to women with long hair, but after I grew my hair quite long (to my lower back), I found myself more attracted to women with short hair-- especially shaky wedge-cuts. I wear my own hair much shorter now and don't find short hair on women nearly as attractive anymore. I'd be interested on knowing if other guys have experienced the same sort of reverse-attraction.
