SO what do you think about Sodium Laureth Sulfate? It is a powerful degreaser, inexpensive, and foams nicely. It also does a great job of pulling all the sebaceaous oil for hair, (maybe too good?). This is simply in the ,"Is it good for my hair" senario. After dealing with that we have the whole " does it cause cancer" question.
So the real question is, what shampoo do you use, if you do not want to use SLS? Or is this just a case of Chicken Little and its fine to use?
i don't want SLS on my head, it is a very harsh chemical. Why destroy the hair that much to conditionalize afterwards?
(as for the second question, i use natural barsoap)

does your "natural" barsoap have an ingredient label you would share with us? Incidentally, sodium laureth sulfate is derived from coconut oil.
and lsd from lsa, but it's a little more potent ;-)
Anyway, for good natural soap, i recommend www.enchantedsoapworks.com
take care

or visit your local health store.... Don't trust the labels though, i've seen TONS of "all natural" soaps with SLS and other scary stuff in it. The ingredients list is your friend :)

Unless they've ground up moon rocks or meteorites in it, all stuff is "natural". It all came from "here".
Uh, yeah. However, rocks and meteorites are natural too!
you know what i meant. natural as in "naturally good"

...concerning your concern about sodium laureth sulfate. I spoke too soon; should have waited until AFTER I logged onto www.safe2use.com Amazing site!
Quite right, the stuff's dangerous.
Here there is a range of "SLS free" shampoos, using mostly natural ingredients and they work very well. Try your local health food shop. If you can't get these, I recommend pure liquid castile soap.
Thanks for the tip on Castile Soap, natural does seem best
I'd say its fine to use if you wash your hair every few days, but like me if you wash daily then it is too drying on your hair. I'm currently using neutrogena t/sal (now renamed) shampoo, which very suprisingly is sls free, and its none stripping on my hair. Bonus is it contains salicylic acid which helps clear up my eczema. The one to really avoid is sodium laurly sulphate, thats the really nasty one they use in industrial cleaning, its found in quite a few shampoo's for example john frieda brunnette line. The best SLS free poo' avail is probably Maisty (sp?) traite shampoo but its very hard to find : ( there is also mop c system but the citrus oils did not do my eczema any favours : ( there are a few baby shampoo's out there that are SLS free but even they're hard to find....
