Hi folks! After lurking the board for a week and having had such positive feedback from you guys (thanks!) I've decided to go for the long hair I've wanted for a while now!
Normally I get a haircut every 2-3 months when it's getting 'too long' and I need to tuck bits behind my ears. I assume thats the very beginning of the awkward stage. So I'm wondering what the best way is to get past that.
I've got a couple bandanas and caps, I've never used any kind of hair mousse or wax or anything so I know nothing about that. My question is, what worked best for you?
I wore a lot of bandanas and hats. If you can put your hair behind your ears, you're already a step up. Just don't let it get to you if you're hair starts getting realy annoying. It will pass.
forgetting about mirrors and thinking about other things helped a lot :-)
good luck! accept your hair!

Well I'm still in "Awkward Land" But I've gotten through the first by having regular trims to maintain the shape as I grew it out. Generally every 10-12 weeks and always with the same stylist who I trust completely.
(OK - I realise that the last 3 words of the preceeding paragraphy may seem like a complete paradox to some, and unattainable to others, but its true it worked.)
The drawback is that whilst your hair is short your hair is cut around the shape of your head - this means that the style wil only usually last about 6-8 weeks so if you trim on 3 month cycles during the last month your hair will generally look crap regardless.
More recently, I've coped with the help of hair dryer, a good brush & comb and the popularisation of the Half Tail.
Without L'Oreal Melting Gel & Spray Gel (& even a couple of hairpins
during the worst periods) I don't know if I could have made it.
The first few months are, without doubt, some of the very worst
of the Awkward Phases.
Come to think of it, there are even awkward phases when the hair is quite long!
Hair is going to do WHAT IT WANTS to do while it is growing out.
And you have MANY different lengths growing at the same time.
DEPRESSION can set in easily...DISCOURAGEMENT can become your 'partner'
at the worst of times.
SELF-DOUBT will always be waiting for you in your mirror and
in the negative comments of strangers and friends alike.
You are LIKE a CATERPILLAR...but you may not have a cocoon to hide in.
But you are changing both INside and out; there are also lots of
psychological changes going on too.
I think Longhaired men have to have strong characters to
go to this trial-by-fire commonly known as the Awkward Phase.
Good Luck on your Journey!
I guess it's a good thing I like to be different then! :)
For me I mostly just wore a hat. And when I didnt have it on I just looked plain out retarded.
Try going here. This guy helped me out greatly.
a hat i don't like gels and stuff makes my blond hair look real dirty oh well later Cody
