Hi. I've been growing my hair over a year now, the front comes just past my mouth and I recently had the back trimmed to about the height of my chin. My problem is, my hair tends to curl outwards a the back, some days only a little, but some days I have my own set of wings. The front also tends to get curly. My hair is thick and straight (well, it used to be). Other than buying hair straightners, is there any way of stopping this, i.e. how I dry my hair or something (I tend to just let it dry itself as it's easier to manage it).
(p.s. photo 4 months old)
Argh, didn't expect the photo to be huge, i thought it'd be a little thumbnail thing like everyone else had. Sorry for inflicting that on you guys! =/
(doesn't give you an excuse not to reply though, dum de dum)
not alot can be done to alleviate the curl... except patience. with time your hair will get longer... you have a slight wave which will actually look quite good once your hair gets longer. avoid straighteners and such as they will likely damage your hair.
Patience = Time = Length = End Curling. This is your brain under long hair. Any questions?
Hahaha, nice formula!
I actually know someone in my school who's so good at maths that he can translate ordinary words like 'length' and 'time' into plausible numbers, and can make proper calculations! Scary business, needless to say he's going to Cambridge Uni next year to study - Maths :s
The problem is caused by the collar of your clothes and your shoulders, which push up your hair every time you move your head or take a step in any direction. Time is the only safe ang guaranteed healer: once your hair gets long enough to hang far enough down your back (I'd say about another 3 to 4 inches) you will find it stops curling up in this way, and, best of all, suddenly looks a lot longer.
I am the king of wings, d00d. If I really really don't want my hair to flip, I can sometimes tame it a bit by blowdrying it down. For the most part, however, there is very little you can do to manually stop your hair from misbehaving. I go through my days basically with a 60's flip...something I first fought but now ignore. It doesn't look bad at all on you, btw, looks cool in fact. I would just let your hair do its thing....
I know what you mean - I've been battling the flips since November. :-( But I'm winning the war, very slowly.
I used to think my hair was straight too, but it turned out mine is pretty wavy, and from your photo I'd say your hair type is pretty similar to mine, and with wavy hair you get the worst flips!
My method of fighting flips at the front/sides is blow drying (cool setting), I dry my hair combing my hair under itself (ie: against the flips) and mostly this prevents the hair flipping at the sides.
As for the back there is very little can do until your hair clears your shoulders, because along with your shirt collar they form an obsticle for your hair, which pushes it out in all directions.
Treyn's fomula is good, plus once your hair clears your shoulders - if you trim it up so it falls to one length, the ends will be less likely to curl up.
Sorted
That picture brings back memories. That's exactly how my hair looked in high school. That stage was as long as I could let it grow before my parents became unbearable and I would always relent.
Of course now I have it past my shoulders and still growing. If your hair is like mine, that curl is just the first wave. If the curl is say, 2 inches, you can't assume that 2 more inches will make another wave. The bad news is that the curl will ride down your head for a while, and the 2nd wave will form above the curl. The good news is that as your hair gets heavier the other waves will be pulled a little so your hair is not really as wavy as you think. I have about 4 of these waves now that my hair is about 14-15 inches. YMMV. The cool thing is that the curl on the end somehow mysteriously disappears. I'm not sure how that happens, but I think it's because the hairs have a long stretch of other hairs to stick to, and they act as self-straigtening guides to a certain extent. Sorry I don't have a decent camera to post what mine looks like, because I think we may have very similar hair.
And that, is the most I've ever written about my hair.
Mine has a tendancy to do that, unless I either keeping combing it down as it is drying, or if I use my ionic hairdryer, which I use on cold an it leaves it nice and flat.
