Regarding Michael's message in the "Queer Eye" thread below, I got to thinking about the idea of longhaired men being more at ease with "out of the norm" fashion. Michael mentioned tatoos and piercings as another manifestation of people "stepping out of the norm" Is it common for longhaired men to also engage in such body art?
I'm curious, how many of you have tattoos and or piercings?
I'll start it off:
tatoos: none
Piercings: 1 (right nipple)
Tats: Four. Right arm, right shoulder, right side of chest, and right ankle. All are very artistic and attractive. The one on my chest is over 12" long.
Piercings: Both ears (left twice, right once), right nipple.
Notice everything is on the right side when it comes to "body art"? Don't ask why, it's just that way. I'm considering doing something on the left. Who knows - maybe someday!
I've got 3 spikes in the upper part of my left ear...and my earlobe is pierced though I never wear anything in it.
My left ear is pierced (once) and I'm considering getting a Scottish Tattoo :)
No Tattoes for me, although I may get one soonish.
Piercings, none, although again, when my hair is longer, I may get a simple stud i think, or I may not bother
Na, won't bother!
piercings: 3, two in left ear ,one in right ear
tatoos: 2, cow skull upper left arm and barb wire all the way round upper left arm and thinking of getting one more for the right arm when i get the money hehe peace cody
... I am thinking about getting one piercing in my right lobe. I have also thought about a tattoo, but I don't know where or what of. My wife has a tattoo above her left breast and she has incouraged me in the past to get one, I just never have went through with it. Peace!
Never had the desire to get either.
I have four tattoos including one on my right ankle, one on my left shoulder blade, one on my left inside arm, and a very large tattoo covering my stomach. It is two large roses and leaves etc. trailing up over my ribs and everything. A shockingly large and beautiful tattoo. (Keep in mind that I am a very feminine woman) I have also had my nose pierced since 1987. Also, my hair has grown down to mid-butt since Sherri posted my picture last year. I get so many compliments on it everywhere I go.
Challakee
Nice to hear from you again. It has been some time since you posted. I have been wanting a tat since forevee. I am just a fraidy cat. I am close tho to getting a Dolphin diving into my belly button. The last picture you posted was awesome so it must be just that much better now. I am on a two year mission of letting mine grow even tho the florida heat and humidity can be challenging.
Dawn
Thanks, Dawn. I re-read my post and it sounded like I was bragging all over myself about my hair and tattoos. I actually just feel really positive about these things, and didn't translate that well. I appreciate your comments, though. I would post current pictures, but need a new didital camera first. I like to read through the posts and encourage these guys as much as possible because I LOVE long-haired men. My fiancee has hair to his waist. Sherri posted his pics as well, but for some reason only on the board and not in the listing of members. It may be in the archives somewhere, but he's got gorgeous hair for a guy.
Take care
Challakee
Left lobe/left eyebrow might get more..depends on work conditions n finding a place thats *leanant* on body modifications.
planning on some tats at some point
None of either. Doesn't appeal to me at all.
tatoos: none
Piercings: none
tatoos: none
Piercings: right nipple and both ears
I have both ears pierced; that's really the only place I'm interested in piercing. But something I may try: I believe its called the Tragus - its the little "flap" of cartiledge that partly covers the earhole. It looks pretty cool when its pierced.
Three tattoos, right shoulder - Tasmanian Devil, upper left arm -tribal band with a Chinese dragon, right chest - Eddie from Maiden England (you Maiden fans know this one)
Had my left nipple pierced (yes left, guess I broke the trend, Rokker!), but my body didn't like it much, took it out after about 10 months
none of either...
I have both arms, back and chest tattoed
piercings, left ear 4,right ear 2 also my nose
is pierced (septum)
Picture Purged
here(hopefully) is a pic' of my tattos
I just get tired of everything too quickly
to do anything permanent.

No piercings and am looking at getting a tatoo pretty soon.
My hair is down the waist, I have zero tatoos, and zero piercings.
I should point out tatoos are illegal here in this state.
Why are tattoos illegal where you live ?
Wow, I have lots of questions on that one!
Do they inspect for them at the state line, like California inspects for vegetables? ;-)
How long do they send you to jail if they catch you with
one?
Do you go to jail twice as long if you have two of them?
Do you get longer jail terms for bigger ones?
Since you can't be tried twice for the same crime, how does the populace face each day seeing all the people who have done their time and still have them!
Piercings :
Left ear lobe and both nipples
Tattoos : For me, I believe that tattoos are my soul coming to the surface.
Left arm - phoenix (re-birth), dragon and some scroll work showing the principles I try to live by and share with others:
'Honesty, Open-mindedness and Willingness'
'Experience, Strength and Hope'
'Patience, Tolerance and Love'
Right arm - Caduceus of Mercury to symbolise health, industry and abstinence from narcotics
Back - large dragon
Chest - Double headed eagle and a scroll reading 'To Thine Own Self be True'
Tattoos - 1, right shoulder
Piercings - 5, left ear
I've thought about doing the right ear too, being a lover of symmetry, but don't think I'll touch it til I'm satisfied I'm finished with the left one.

None at the moment but I´ll probably get a piercing.
I've got the kanji symbols for good fortune tatooed on the underside of my right wrist... cant say I can recommend having your viens their tatooed over!!... its a bit sensitive : ) im sort of sorry I got it now tho and not something different.. I mean if I ever go to Japan (which I hope to do soon!) id feel ashamed if someone saw it and was like "why'd ya get that done?!..." plus it may not even say what I think it says!!....the possibilities are endless.
tatoos: none yet, looking for a good design though
Piercings: 1 (left nipple)
I have a question for all you pierced nipples-
What was your motivation? Do you like it? Were you sensitive there before? How about now?
I have seen this in the gay community for quite a while, and it seems to have spilled over into straight- any observations on that?
Curious- because I am considering it this summer. I would especially like to know about the sensitive before/after issue.
~Whtviking
I don't know what it was that motivated me to get it done. I will say that I had mine done LONG before it became a fashion trend.
My nips are uncomfortably sensitive. It's a look but don't touch thing, nipple ring or not.
That being said, surprisingly it didn't hurt to get it pierced.
And they stayed sensitive I take it... that would be my concern, losing that. I know guys who have no feeling and would NOT want that.
Yes, the right one is just as overly-sensitive as the left. The piercing made no difference.
Motivation - just felt like it ! Do I like it ? - Yes, I like the look and feel and they add extra (ahem) fun 'possibilities' to one's love life !! (Why is nothing straightforward in my life ?!)
Just as sensitive as before (in some ways more so).
You should be aware that (depending on the gauge of the ring) nipple rings permanently change the size of your nipples - they become much larger. I suggest you just put 'male nipple piercings' into Google and have a look at the likely effect on your nips.
After reading that comment, I did a double-take on my chest. I never noticed any difference before.
And there is no difference now. In fact, of all the people I've known who got a piercing, none have experienced any changes in size whatsoever.

I've been considering geting a tatoo on left arm, two infact.
One's kind of a joke - I have a really major zip scar on the underside of my arm (from surgery) I've always figured it might be funny to work something around that, I'm at loss for good ideas though. Suggestions welcomed picture included.
The other is more serious, I'd like to cast an I Ching hexagram. They consist of 6 broken or unbroken lines. They are important part ancient chinese wisdom, and each hexagon has a specific meaning. I'm thinking about having one tatooed onto the back of my wrist.
All I can say is, that I have two scars, one on each elbow joint, which stand out very clearly when I straighten my arms, and I have been using Elastoplast Scar Reduction patches, which I bought from Boots the Chemist. They are really good, and my scars are at least 60% better than in january, when I first started applying them. As for a tattoo, I don't know sorry:)

Well... it's nothing professional - I do actually design tattoos, but I draw by hand - not so easy on the computer... but here's some fun ideas :)

Looks like a zipper to me,.
I hereby present my quickie watercolor version. [trumpet fanfare] My mind immediately saw your scarring as a sweet millipede kind of critter but with splayed legs ending in little round feet following those white scar lines. That is just me though, a person that has considered a Teletubby antenna on each knuckle should I ever go for a tattoo.
Elizabeth, of no piercings
Hmmm, maybe there is somethig about people with long hair willing to be untraditional in other ways.
My brother(34) had open heart surgery about 5 years ago, and is in the process of getting the scar on his chest pierced. What he's planning on is having over 200 small rings, interlocking so as to look like a zipper (he's also gonna put a pull tab at the top).
I don't have a photo though. . . .I'll have to see if I can get one
No and No. Never would even think about it

You beat me on earrings, I have only 7. I have 2 tattoos. Absalom
It would go against my "look natural" aesthetic. then again, I've got a 6 mo beard now and am thinking of shaving it for the summer, so it's not like I'm that strict about it. The irreversability thing discourages me against that too.
I've removed a lot of earrings, but still have 15 piercings in my right ear and 12 in my left.
2 piercings in both ears, hoop earrings in both, will post picture soon I hope
