Ok ill try to make this as short as possible. My hair is just about chin length(thick). Ive been tucking it behind my ears for about 3 months now and i can never wear it down again cuz it now flips like crazy due to growing behind my ears. It looks like absolute crap! I need help of you could offer. I already tried blow dryng while fliping the hair in the opposite direction and it doesnt work. It has gotten to the point where im actually considering cutting it if their is nothing I could do. I dont want this tyo happen! I hope there are non-damaging straighteners out there or something that could help me. Thx for any suggestions to help me.
The blow drying should work well enough so the flip is not a big problem. How did you do it? Here's what I do. I get my hair to the point where it's almost dry, so there's a little moisture left but it will be dry after the blow drying. Then I use one of those round metal brushes, and a blow dryer, with the blow dryer on low. I put the brush behind my hair (against my neck) and brush it down until only the end of my hair is on the brush. Then I pull down on the brush and rotate it, so that it is pulling my hair straight except at the very end, where the hair curls under following the shape of the brush. Then I hold the brush with one hand and use the other hand with the blow dryer to dry the hair place. After I get the hair hot and dry, I let it get cool again before removing the brush. I guess you could say this is more like setting hair than like blow drying, using the brush instead of rollers. It seems to work well though, and it's really very easy to do in spite of the description. If you do this and the end of your hair curls in too much, try a brush with a larger diameter. Also, if your hair is still damp after doing this, you need to do it again until you get it dry this way, not letting it dry on its own. Good luck!
(Here's another copy of my new reply to your other post on the same topic, in case you missed it)
I do use it just about every day. At least, on the days I wash it. After you wash it, your hair will go back to normal. The Conair model I use is CS4. It's only about 3/4" wide. You can get wider ones if your hair is pretty long. When I got mine my hair was fairly short, so I wanted a straightening iron that wasn't too wide. It has 25 different heat settings. I use the highest setting and haven't noticed any damage.
I just realized I can point you in the right direction with Conair's website. Check out this link. It goes right to the description of the straightener I use. And again, I couldn't be happier with it.

Here is a better Conair web site: [wink]
Flipping of many kinds is due mostly to the fact that your
hair is not long enough.
I went through the flipping phase. But
when your hair gets long enough, there will be
nice waves insteads of those flips.
What saved me were L'Oreal MELTing Gel & L'Oreal Liquid SPRAY Gel...and a couple of pins.
my advice is to chill out and put up with it for a little while no pain no rogain uno what I mean. I don't live my life worrying about how everyone else sees me and have had long hair most of my life. The feel of having long hair is so awesome that when it all happens any awkward stage has been well worth it. HANG IN THERE.
I too think I have this problem I wear my hair behind my ears alot. And I think it has effected it and this is in a case where the hair is quite long but it does look stupid sometimes because of the twists and curls it gets what is the solution besides straightening and blow drying?
hahah
mine does this too! i don't have a solution though.
i try to get rid of the habit of tucking it behind my ears, but i know it will happen until it's long enough to stay back by itself

I have pretty wavy hair and I'm strugling with flips as well, but for the most part I can control the flips at the sides with blow drying, and now my hair is longer at the back, its begining to settle down too.
But Dont cut it off. A trim to remove some of the layers could also help reduce the flips and curls. Please Post a Picture so we can see the problem.
