it seems when i pull my hair back off my face i have a small row of very short, half inch or so hairs along the hairline at my forehead.
I've always had super thick hair, and this is the first time i've ever bothered to pull it back, but is this normal? There doesn't seem to be any thinning anywhere so i don't know if it's natural or not.
thanks,
Don't worry, you're not alone. My girlfriend has exactly the same thing - though she has a fringe so it's never apparent. Unfortunately, I don't know what the reason is for the occurence.
I can only guess that maybe it is a natural thing, like the shorter hairs at the neckline etc. Otherwise, it may be due to use of damaging products specifically on that area of the hair, or overbrushing/hairdrying.
These are only guesses. If it doesn't bother you, I don't think there's a problem. If you are self-conscious about them, I'm sure one of the old-guard here on the board can help :)
All the best.

Yeah, me too dont worry its normal... are they thinner than your reg hairs in diameter too?... its just the transitional hairs form the microfine hairs on your forhead to your main head of hair. I'd guess it would be the follicles are different in shape or something like a hybrid between the ones on your forhead and the ones on your head. They've probably always been there btw but they tend to grow really slowly, so you main hair has overtaken them far ago which is why they are apparent now you have longer hair.
They are probably a combination of 3 things.
1) Transitional hairs - that will always be a little shorter, they are common around hairlines some have very short terminal length and never grow. A little water will hold them down when your want to pull your hair back eg: tail.
2) Minor damage from brushing, when you comb you are likely to cause a little breakage with a few hairs, they just show up on your hairline because they are at the front. Brush carefully with a decent comb.
3) New hairs growing through, new hair folicles are always growing to replace older one that fall out every day. These will always appear shorter until they catch-up with the longer hairs. Again they are more visible here because they are on the edge of your hairline, but they occur accross your scalp.
Hope that helps.
