After I get out of the shower, I always notice these little white spots on some strands of hair (one hair strand never has more than one of these). They're like wrapped around the hair strand (as I have to slide them down to the tip of the hair to get rid of them)... Also I notice them on SOME of the hair that falls out, but they are usually right at the root.
I don't think its dandruff because its not really flaky, just like little white beads.
Does anyone else have this... condition, or know what it could be?
And coincidentally, since I've started to notice this, I've also noticed the hair at the top and sides of my head seems to have gotten quite thin (though not severely thin... yet), and I notice more hair falls out when I shampoo and I can see more scalp when I get out of the shower, but I might just be paranoid.
I think you should maybe have a really close look, just in case they're alive - I think nits can look like that but I'm not entirely sure.
From being a kid I remember the best way to see what it is, is to put them on a white piece of paper.
I have no idea what else it could be... but you could always see your GP if you're worried... or a hairdresser if you don't want to make a fuss.

Lice nits (eggs) don't "slide down" the hair strand though. They are glued to it really tight. The shell remains glued to it really tight even after the egg hatches. After hatching occurs the lump will be light in color instead of dark.
Lice usually lay their eggs near the scalp, so if you see lumps two inches from a hair's root, they were most likely laid four months ago.
Dude, you got lice. Does your head itch alot? Nits are the eggs of lice. They look like very small whitish beads on the hair shaft and can not be easily removed. Dandruff can be easily shaken off. Nits must be scraped off. You can get over the counter lice shampoo. Rid or Nix are popular brands. There are also other ways to get rid of them. Mayonaise thickly coated on your hair and then a shower cap over it for overnight will help get rid of the lice. Daily combing with a fine tooth comb is necessary to remove the nits not killed with the shampoo and/or mayonaise.
It is also VERY important to thoroughly clean your house and to wash your bedding in hot water. Throw away the vacuum bag after you vacuum all of the carpet. You can put stuffed animals, big blankets, pillows, etc. into large plastic bags for 2 weeks to kill the lice and nits on them. Double bag these items.
I am speaking from experience. 2 years ago my daughter came home with lice from school. We literally tore apart the whole house and cleaned it. It was hell, but the nasty bugs did not return. All your housemates need to be treated, as well. If you are not thorough, the lice will return. And then you have to do it all over again. We did end up trimming some of her hair to meke the daily fine tooth combing easier. She was 7 at the time and had midback length hair.
