A warm hello to everyone in this, I would call, a perfect site for long-haired men/even women.
I'm an asian man with straight, silky hair which I really love it very, very much. But as my hair grew longer, I observed that I never fail to choke up the vortex in my shower cubicle whenever I'm having a shower, and at the same time, washing my hair. Sometimes, the pile of hair was so much that it completely obscured the 5cm diameter vortex where water flows through, with an observable pile up thickness. Each time I smooth through my hair during shampooing, about 10++ strands start to stick in between my fingers and this makes shampooing a very uncomfortable job as I have a great fear of losing too much of my hair. Now, my question is, what is the normal rate of hair loss per day? Is my description of hair loss sound excessively serious? Will I lose my hair if this goes on? Or is there anything wrong with my way of shampooing (BTW, I usually smooth through my hair gently in one direction, i.e. backwards, during shampooing)? If it is very serious, is there any possible remedy? Please help, I really love my hair I hate to lose them.
I started growing out my hair from a standard military cut in Dec 1997 and had not touched it since. Now, my hair is about 2-3 inches below my shoulder (total length of about 12 inches). Is this growth normal or too slow due to my hair loss described above? My friends had told me that my hair growth was too slow and they thought that I've gotten it cut in Dec 1998, which I didn't! Sigh..
I thank everyone for taking the time and patience to read my long mail. Any advice would be deeply appreciated and warmest regards to all longhairs, shorthairs on this board :)))
12 inches is normal for 2 years growth. be patient, it'll get longer. as far as fallout; what you see over your shower drain may not be all that unusual. 20 strands of longer hair will have more volume than 20 short hairs. unless there is observable thinning on the top of your head, i wouldn't worry about it.
pay no attention to your friends comments- they may just be trying to get a reaction from you- i assume they're aware of your desire to grow your hair out. you should try to be happy that your hair is 2-3 inches below shoulder length instead of impatient that it's not growing fast enough. i hope this helps.
Normal hair loss is about 100 hairs per day. If you see many hairs
separated from your head that don't have a whitish bulb at one end, or
if you see lots of short strands of hair near your scalp, you're
probably breaking your hair.
Before taking a shower, try combing your hair, starting at the ends
and then gradually combing closer to your scalp. Untangle tangles
with your fingers. Use detangler after you shampoo if your hair
tangles easily after you take a shower.
If your hair is layered, your hair growth seems to be normal. If your
hair is one length, your hair growth is fast.
