Does shaving facial hair make it come back quicker? I'm trying to get a beard going (Although I'm only just turning 17). :o)

.
I don't think it does - I didn't shave til I was 17, and then only when I had to. I think it's purely genetic, but don't stress. It'll get there eventually.

Hey Brian-
Sorry, but shaving won't make it come back quicker. Genes and Nationalties play a big part. Also the older you become the MORE hair you are most likely to acquire.
By the time you are 20 you will know very well what is "normal" for yourself in the "Facial Hair" department.
All the best,
Justin
Not sure I agree with that, speaking from experience. When I was 20, I had nothing on my cheeks, or lower-jaw. Only the beginnings of sideburns, and a moustache, that was far from spectacular. I began to aquire hair in those "lacking" areas, when I was 23-24, and couldn't grow anything decent, until my late 20s. I'm 36, now, and have a good beard past 8" in length.
Well, guess it is different for everybody...........some sooner, some later. Glad you arrived (so to speak) and can now sport an awesume Beard. Must look great!
It helps your hair grow just about as much as cutting the ends of the hair on your head to make it grow faster (see not at all). The reason so many people think this is true is because guys start shaving when their facial hair begins growing and confuse the fact their beards are getting fuller with the shaving instead of the fact they are growing up. If you don't shave ever, you'll develope facial hair just as fast as if your carried a razor in your pocket at all times (though you'll probably look a little ragged for a few years or so). Just one of those all too typical causation vs. correlation things...
After you start shaving, you beard may *appear* fuller
because ALL the hairs would then be the same length.
This would give the illusion of a thicker, fuller beard
(which may be something you'd be satisfied with at the moment),
but it would have no effect on what is going on below the skin level.
Good Luck!
I'm 17 too, and to be honest, I only feel the need the shave about every fortnight, because I hardly have any stubble, and the hair's haven't matured and turned black yet.
I don't like shaving, its a pain in the arse, so I don't and I can get away with it for a while. I don't think it suits me anyway.
Haha, that's exactly how I am too. I very lazy about shaving and it's pretty much just peach fuzz.
But I do think it will look cool, a beard and longhair.

I think it does. My cousin is my age, 15, and he's got a full beard already. It grew because he constantly shaved, even when there wasnt even any hair to shave. I shaved my moustache (if thats what you want to call it) about a month ago and it grew back in a week and a half.

NO NO NO...............WHAT YOU GOT IS WHAT YOU GET
I technically started shaving when I was 13.
Doesnt matter how often you shave, you get what nature gives you, and at the speed nature intended.
I can assure you, I didnt have a full beard by the age of 15 :)
Eventually you'll hit a 'growth spurt' when suddenly you seem to need to shave daily. It'll hit you by surprise, but you can't make it grow faster by shaving. Old wives tale :)
And what would old wives know about beards anyway? I wonder if when shaving their chins more of the old-lady-whiskers just seem to grow back. ;-)

I don't think it does, it has to do mostly with nature and genetics. Shaving will, however, make the hair coarser. My father didn't have a full beard until he was thirty; I on the other hand was able to grow a thin moustache at fifteen, a full, long Van Dyke at nineteen, and a full beard this past winter (I'm twenty-three now). I took after the male members of my mother's side of family in terms of beard growth (and height, too, most of the men in my father's family are short).
But take heart, it will grow with time. I remember being seventeen, and wanting a beard so badly. The wispy hairs that sprouted from my chin looked like crap, but I was darn proud of them, as most males that age are.
A word of warning, though. Enjoy your ability to shave with ease while you still can. My beard is so tough it takes clippers and triple-edge razors (that I only get ONE use out of) to trim my winter beard back into a Van Dyke.
I'd like to see a pic of you with the long hair and the Van Dyke. It is a combination I am currently considering, and would like to see how it looks.
