I've heard that dreads visibally grow at about 1 to 2 inches a year. I can understand why this is, because of the way it's locked and not growing straight out, but are there any exceptions to this? I'm seriously thinking about getting dreads done (apparantly my hair would dread well, because it's thick), but here is the problem...
I don't think I could handle such a slow rate of visible growth (hair's just at lower neck, upper sholder length with no layers), so I could wait for another 5 or so years until I've grown it as long as possible, but I have an undercut (which I regret, but think it'll look good with dreads), and for some reason I'd feel inclined to regrow my undercut if I was going to grow my hair long for eventual dreads.
Any advise would be appreciated.

I've had locks (nothing THAT dreadful about them ;) for a bit over two weeks. I have a friend that has had them over a year (I helped put his in), and he has had slower than apparent hair growth, but much more than an inch or two in the last year.
If you want any other advice or tips, just ask!
BTW, thinking of dieing the color of my roots so I can watch the dreads grow. Possibly white.

They say dyed hair dreads easier (because the textures is so nappy afterwards), but to do it BEFORE you dread, cause it's a pain to dye locked hair. Good luck!
I'm inclined to admire non-traditional hairstyles on girls as much as guys (I've seen some cute girls with shaved heads...it really can work). So go for it if you want to have some fun.
I can't be bothered to fuss over celebrities and their fascinating lives, but I did notice a picture of Jennifer Aniston with dreds. I thought she looked really good, but I don't think I remember seeing her on friends or anything else with dreds. I was wondering about that... how did she get rid of them or grow out her hair so fast? Maybe I'm missing something.
I think that only applies to if you have 1/2 inch average growth a month. It makes sense to say you can double the apparent growth if you grow an inch a month like me.
According to the sites I've read and the people I've talked to, this general rule applies to dreads on anyone, because of the way the hair is locked.
