So I go to the dentist the other day and I'm sitting in the chair waiting for the guy to come in, when one of those perky little dentist slaves.. (helpers?) walks in and looks at me and says "get a hair cut you hippy!". I wasnt sure if she was kidding... I was pretty mad but I thought nah it was probably a joke. Next the dentist walks in and says "woooah there buddy! looks like you need a hair cut!" (he has a crew cut).
Has any of this crap where people have told you to get a hair cut ever happened to you guys?
Vote with your money. Take your teeth, your hair and your business elsewhere! No one should have to be subjected to such insulting behavior. Especially from people who are supposed to be professionals and whom you are paying.
you know im pretty young only 18 and usually stuff like this doesnt bother me the slightest. And I usually end up telling people to stop being so emotional and to not let things like this bother them. But your actually right why should you have to put up with that kind of crap in a place like that. I really hope that someone says something like that to me the next time I go to the dentist because I like to confront people when they say ignorant things towards me.
Yes somewhat like it one day i was at burger king ordering my food so im waitin and the guy hands me my food and says thank you m'am, then he said jus kiddin! i didnt seem to think it was funny.
Yeah, he wouldn't be thinking it was so funny when I shove my foot up his @$$. LOL
I'd give him a knucle "sandwich"!!!
If that were me I'd have taken the plastic lid of my milkshake and thrown it all over him. I'd leave with the polite words:
"Apology Accepted."
You're JOKING??? If that had've been me, I would have outright abused them. What a bunch of small minded bigots! I agree with Reflective - just take your business elsewhere, let them know it, too, there is no way they would take good care of your teeth with an attitude like that. And shove his drill up his a**e for good measure!
I've had experiences at the dentist where they were very rude to me. Last time I even thought the nurse was intentionally hurting me as she cleaned my teeth. Maybe dentists are just very conservative. Or maybe they're just jerks.
So he just says things like "Your hairs getting longer" and stuff. I dunno why your dentists are jerks
Not at the dentist! I am usually already freaked out when I go there, so I think that would seriously knock me off balance.
It does happen every now and again, though. I remember one Christmas back home in London, I had been to the office party and was fairly drunk. I had been asked to walk a certain manager to the station as she was far drunker than me, and everyone was worried that she wouldn't get on the right train or that she might fall over!
Anyway, mission accomplished, I got aboard my own train, and in the spirit of the season I started wishing everyone in that carriage "Merry Christmas". Well, there was one old geezer whose reply was "Get a haircut". I didn't think much of that atall. I told him he had no Christmas spirit.
not by strangers, or at least i didn't hear it :)
whatever, nothing they do or say can have any affect on you if you don't let it.

Surprisingly, about half of the time for me it turns out to be someone who used to have long hair in the 60s and 70s, and who wants to engage me in conversation due to a residual longing within themselves which I have just awakened. So they were joking, and just wanting to catch my attention. Go figure.
Highly unprofessional and way out of line. I would NEVER go to this Dentist again............but I would write him a short letter about harassment and cc a copy of it into the Dentristy Board (or what ever thay are called) in your state.
In a place that's professional this is pretty rude, but I personally find that the best idea is to just laugh with them. Show them that you're above those stupid insults and they mean nothing to you. Plus, the laughter will make you feel better about yourself.
Not too bad, though the comments are both better and worse with dreads. I had this black man pass me on the sidewalk and say "yo, 'sup my hippy".
My favorite retort is (and I think this came from Hair Religion) is "but then I'd look like you". Say it with a horrified expression. :O
Like it... gonna use it :)

When I first read your story, I think the best response would be to tell him "I have to get up and leave the chair because I just cancelled my appointment" and get up and walk out. I just don't think I could trust someone who has such prejudicial dislike of people.
I found a good suggestion in Justin's post:
