Thank you to everyone who supported me during this difficult period. I have updated my website and posted my May 2004 progress pictures. This month I took my pictures outdoors and I think the natural lighting created the most representative pictures to date. What you see *is* my natural hair color(s) and pale complexion (a relief after looking unnaturally red in all my winter pictures). Please ignore the fact that my hair was greasy and frizzy. While waiting for an overcast-but-not-rainy day here in Ottawa the 'best-before' date on my hair wash expired! I assure everyone that my hair was *perfect* only the day before the photos were taken! Seriously!! <- extra '!!' shows I'm serious!!! In comparing my pictures between March and May (2 months) it seems clear that I am getting *at least* the 'normal' growth of 1/2 inch (1.2cm) per month. Now 'long hair' reality is setting in. It is a bit like living in a sweater you cant remove. I carefully plan my hair washing well in advance. Today I went out with dirty hair because I had a dentist appointment and saw no need to have clean hair exposed everything that is flying around a dentists office! By planning ahead I minimized the number of times I wash my hair. This will be important in the achievement of my *next* goal of reaching belt length. The distance between my hair and my belt is 12"(30cm). Thus I have another two years of growth and the ends of my hair will be a total of four years old when they reach my belt. I have to take very good care of it! For everyone who is well past me in hair length, congratulations, I know how much dedication it takes. For those of you who are just getting started or are in the awkward stage, I hope you are encouraged and inspired, as I was, to take good care of your hair and dream long!

Awesome progress, no doubt about it.
By the way, now that you have long hair, did you ever think about going clean-shaven, since long hair can make one's clean shaven face look different than before? I'm not suggesting one or the other is better because I really don't know, but I'm just wondering if it's crossed your mind. Perhaps facial hair is a permanent fixture for you, and that's cool too
Wow...you certainly are a Longhair!
Can't believe how fast your hair has grown & changed!
Overnight it seems!
Congratulations!
You look incredible !! The outdoor photos really show your colour nicely. As always, thanks for sharing.....
Still working on your Dragon 1200 Puzzle...probably bother me all night !! HA!
Do you need to be Canadian to figure it out ??
Not washing your hair for 10-15 days refers to shampooing right? You would still get your hair wet or condition inbetween these points right?
I shampoo every 10 to 15 days. I try to keep it dry between shampoos to prevent loss due to tangling and matting but I will apply a little mane n' tail and/or silicone based products to allow for easier combing. I have a mix of maybe 10% coarse, 20% medium, and 70% fine hair. I also have a mix of maybe 20% curly, 20% wavy, and 60% straight, definitely one of the worst hair types to grow super long. By taking extraordinary measures I was able to achieve the impossible. These measures include washing very infrequently, keeping my hair dry, and keeping multiple hair bands along the entire length of my hair at 4 inch intervals to further stop tangling. Absalom
So are you saying that washing your hair/getting it wet too often, e.g once a day, will be damaging for hair in the long run. Does this really apply if you are only attempting to grow your hair to shoulder length (or a bit less)? :P
P.S. It seems like your methods have paid off Absolam - You have excellent hair!
If you are only trying for shoulder length you should be OK with wetting it frequently. I have an unruly mix of straight, wavy, and curly hair which is prone to knotting, matting, and tangling. (This is one of the worst hair types for growing really long.) My hair takes many hours to dry so daily wetting is not practical. Absalom
Hmm maby I should begin thinking about changing my washing routine. Im getting close to two years growth and my hair isnt showing alot of growth rate anymore. As of now I wash my hair once a day with shampoo and conditionar some days leaving out the shampoo if my hair hasnt gotten sweaty etc. If I dont wash most of the time every day my hair will get very greasy and loose its thickness and will start to get kind of flat looking any tips?
My hair takes longer to become oily now probably due to less frequent washing and probably age, I am 51 years old. There is an adjustment period but there is a good chance your hair too will not get oily as fast with longer intervals between washes. At least for me frequent washing caused increased oil production. Also, most of my hair breakage and loss resulted from frequent washing. My suggestion is to gradually increase your washing interval. A good goal to try to gradually reach might be to wash once every 5 days instead of daily. Good luck and keep it long. Absalom
