Alot of people are talking about cutting back on number of washes and such so I have a few questions. Im going to stop shampooing everyday but will continue to conditionar everyday. My first question is does anyone else find it hard to work conditionar in when they havn't shampooed first? And second now that my hair is getting long I was thinking I should be tying it back when I sleep. Is this a good idea as so far ive just been putting my hair behind my ears and laying it over my back? If it is a smart idea to start tying back before sleeping what is a good type of hair tie to use I know that I wont be using my day time hair ties as they have that metal piece in them?
It is useful to think of your hair as a favorite sweater. If you wash and dry a sweater *every day* how long will it last? If you want very long hair you have to keep the hair strands in top-notch condition for many years. For maximum growth I recommend minimizing the number of times you get your hair wet. For example, I wet and condition my hair about every three days. I wash with shampoo and condition about every six days. On days I don't wash or condition I wear a shower cap to keep my hair dry. If I need a little conditioner between wash days I use a leave-in conditioner product. Everyone is different, so my schedule might be to little or too much for your hair and your lifestyle. I will add that if your hair is getting dirty on a regular basis (say when you are at work) you might consider wearing a cap or bandana to keep your hair clean and save you having to wash it. The gym is another place where a bandana will keep your hair off the benches and mats and keep it clean (and safe from moving parts). Good luck with your hair growth goals!
I've tried sleeping with mine tied and it just dosen't work. I'm a very aggressive sleeper (apparently) and it feels quite uncomfortable. I just leave mine loose. I can see this becoming a problem soon, though, as I wind up pulling it many times that I roll over.
Exactly the same problem I have my hair reaches quite a ways onto my back and im usually bale to throw it all onto there but sometimes you roll over just not being cautious enough and it can get pulled pretty bad. I think im going to give tieing it back a try pretty soon hopefully it works for me.
