How do you wear your hair to bed? One of the things I've discovered as my hair grew longer is that I have to tie it up before I go to bed so it won't wrap around my head, get trapped under my body, etc. It seems some people can just drape it off the end of the bed. Maybe mine is too short for that or I just flop around too much. I also can't tie it anywhere behind my head because the knot bothers me. For many months now I've been tying my hair into a 'topknot'. (Fate is against me here as I've taken pictures the last two updates but they didn't come out). I gather the hair into a ponytail on the crown of my head, pull it through the elastic, instead of pulling the tail through a second time I only pull it part-way so it forms a small loop. Makes it more compact and easier to remove in the morning. I vary the position of the knot around the top of my head to avoid excessive wear in one particular spot. When I first started doing this all my hair wasn't long enough to stay. Now it stays nicely and, frankly, I have no problem being seen by people when I wake up. It is obviously a 'utility' hairstyle but when I had short hair I had much, much worse 'bed head'. As an added benefit having my hair piled on top of my head makes my morning routine a lot easier (shaving, teeth brushing, face washing, etc). The top-knot is working for me but I'm still interested in other ideas. How do you wear your hair to bed?
Mine isn't really long enough to do anything with at the moment, so I just go to bed without doing anything with it. However, when I wake up it's usually a bit of a mess, meaning I have to wet/wash and dry it each day - hopefully not a problem though, considering i'm only aiming for shoulder length or almost shoulder length. Also, I never have time to let mine dry naturally, therefore I have to blowdry it (cool setting). Will this be much of a problem in terms of damage to hair, considering the length i'm going for?

I generally put my dreadlocks into a tam, though sometimes I just let them go loose.
Braided - saves a lot of time in the morning as there are never any tangles
I wear mine down and drape it off the side of the bed... nothing much I can do beyond that. Ponytails don't stay in overnight for me.
Thanks alot for sharing that. Currently ive just drapped my hair over my back and over the side of the bed if possible. But it is starting to become a hassel I think I may try the top knot as you have suggested if you could show a picture of the style it would be much appreciated thanks.
Ponytail...segmented with several hair ties.
Prevents tangles, etc. and stays out of my way.
In the morning my hair is in great shape!
You CAN'T MISS doing it this way. (I have done it this way myself................but for the most part like my hair "free" so simply pull it up over my head with hardly ever a "tug" or a problem.)
If I may ask..........what is your present length Luckskind?
Justin~
Basically draped to the side. This means that when I turn over, I do a little manipulating to drape it the other way. I sleep fairly lightly, so this is not a problem. If I am on my back, I pull it up as if to do the topknot you are talking about and let it drape over the pillow above my head.

I leave it loose. With or without hair I tend to alternate between sleeping on my back and my side before actually falling asleep. With the hair, I find being on my back uncomfortable unless I make a conscious effort to pull it forward and lay it on my chest with the sheet over my chest so the ends aren't directy on my chest (which is where the ends are now). When I'm on my side I just let it lay all out behind me. That's usually how I fall asleep and when I wake up that's usually where it is. Occasionally I'll get the business now where it's stuck under my arms, but it hasn't woken me up in the middle of the night yet. It's just that when I roll over and stretch and I'm still groggy it pulls.
Kind of easy for myself. I simply gather all of my hair and pull it above my head.
Tying it in a tail keeps it more manageable in the morning I tie it looser and sometimes with several ties segmented. If the knot bothers you, use two down pillows and put your head between them. (Now that Ive written that, I suppose any two soft things would work !! HA!
Sweet Dreams ..
My hair still hasn't hit the tying up length, so I just leave it as it is. However, one nice thing I experience now is I don't have a little ledge in my hair from where I slept on it, as I used to when my hair was less than an inch long.
I just put mine into a low ponytail. Unfortunately, it ends up being quite low most of the time, because I don't want the hair tie right underneath my neck.. I'd never be able to sleep with it like that. So most of the time, the hair tie ends up falling out or nearly doing so, but it does still help keep my hair from getting too knotty overnight. At least, it's better than if I don't do anything at all.
I don't do anything yet. It's not long enough to cause any real problems.
Also, if I go to bed and my hair looks fine, mostly it'll still look fine the next day, even if I've been thrashing in bed.
My hair isn't long yet but I'm starting to experience a lot of flips if I don't do anything to it so what I do sometimes is...wear a black thin cap over my head to keep its shape until the next morning.
Not many other people here seem to do this but Ive found just a simple 3 strand braid works great, and its really helped keep knots and tangles out. If I wanna take the time Ill french braid it. when I sleep Ill usually keep the braid in front of my shoulder.
Due to its length, (16 inches past my waist) I keep multiple soft cloth hair bands at about 4 inch intervals along the entire length of my hair. This keeps it together well. I then move my hair over to one side and lie down. It is just that simple. Absalom
As If you didn't know that :p
