Tom

Mine is because I have trouble growing any at all esp. on top.
It started out short but I've been gradually adding to it. It's about six inches below my collar now. I think that's about the length I want, so next is to "grow" the sides, top, etc, to about the same length. I love to feel it riding over my shoulders when it's hooked behind my ears. What I'm wondering is if I should eventually replace or cut off the shorter ones that I started out with, or leave it layered. I kinda like the long, one-length, but not quite blunt thing.
I have several wig's mainly beacuse of my work which does not approve of real female hairstyle. My own hair is about mid back and permed very curly and big. To work I use mid back straight wig.
I would enjoy hearing more about your hair, it sounds very fine, especially with respect to wearing it in feminine hairstyles. I would like to do the same with my hair.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I own several wigs that I enjoy wearing. Since my own hair is about
waist length, I have shorter wigs--shoulder blade length or less.
I like the bob look and I have a few of those, my favorite being one
that is a bit longer than chin length in the front and a bit shorter
in the back. I buy these at a wig shop that whose manager is very
understanding! When I bought the above bob it was the first I wore
home from the store--it was great.
I also have some hair extensions I clip on for added body, and to
even out my own hair's length. I have a wig I bought years ago that
is hip-length (mail order from Frederick's of Hollywood), but I would
love to have a nicer one.
I'll try to get some images to send for posting.
To: Hishair- I too enjoy wearing wigs like the ones you have described here. I'd like to see your pics too. Can't wait!
Yes I do, though I don't go out publicly with them on. I enjoy very long hair and, in the comfort and privacy of home, like to pretend to have long, some might say feminine, hair. I have one female friend who knows about it and she is ok with it. Perhaps I can ask her to take some pictures.
why not go out and where one to some different places away from where you might run into anyone you might know(-if that's what would make you more comfortable)? it would be more satisfying to have the long hair as your own while shopping-going to the movies, out to a concert or to a club, etc. until you got used to wearing and having long hair? your girl frind could go with you. also would like to see the pics too! anyway good luck!
The wigs I have are pretty obviously just that, wigs; so it's not like that can be hidden or covered up. Moreover, bigger city but small community syndrome is in effect, it is hard to not see someone known. Perhaps something like camping would be a way to do it. Camping alone with my waist length wig on, what do you think? Also, have you had experience with this? What did you do? Thanks for the advice, keep in touch.
well-i now rather have the long rocker look-but-it took a long time to get there!well worth the effort-because i can have it all now -all the time-i just gradually grew my own thinish hair out over time and added system with it-till both grew out to below shoulders-where the length is now- everyone just assumed i had it all along-for work, i just brush it all back to a neatly groomed long ponytail-none seems to care
So do you wear a toupee? I wear a piece and want to have it long
I wear long wigs "designed for women", that reach my mid-back to just above my waist. I think that if you are willing to spend the money, you can get something very nice that looks natural. You can't wear it "up", but you can have a lot creative styles.

email me, maybe we can trade a few (please see my post above)

Wigs are cool because you can have very long hair in minutes instead of years. My real hair doesn't grow very long so the only way I can experience the joy of very long hair is with a wig.
The downside is that most long wigs are synthetic fiber which tangles like crazy, and the color palette usually isn't very complete, with blondes being way too light.
why not go for human hair wig with skin top? the colour and feel of the hair would be more natural , and if use good detangler and conditioner-should eliminate the tangling problem
I suspect really long (butt-length and beyond) human hair is not so easily come by, and that it's easier just to manufacture it out of synthetic fiber in an assortment of colors. Believe me, if I could find a human-hair wig that long in anything close to my own hair color I would snap it up immediately! I've scoured the web and the longest lengths seem to be available in synthetic only. One thing about viewing wigs on the web: you see a poofy wig being modelled by someone who looks like her name should be "Bambi", but with a little imagination you can visualize the wig on a guy and the same wig would make him look like a pretty studly rocker-dude.
One thing I want to work on is attaching a wig to the inside of a baseball cap (which are now the rage among Gen-X whippersnappers). A cap should hide a multitude of sins such as bad hairline, artificial-looking scalp, the wig slides around, etc.
well-you're probably right about the more mass market websites-their wigs would be moderate to inexpensive-but the quality and functionality would be also less reliable-but a site like scissor wizards-though more expensive -could probably do any length you want in human hair-or mixture-longer is more expensive-but they would be good quality-more natural and be securely attachable -clips and tape-they are at: http://home.earthlink.net/~wolfsunka/
see the men's extentions in particular-
also-a baseball cab can be brushed against or accidently knocked about and could move around- could be embarrassing- besides you couldn't take it off inside or in situations where one would or should remove a hat- but still want to have long hair on .
any way thought i'd share some thoughts -
I understand they get some very long human hair from the Far East and western Europe as it's left at places of worship as a sacrifice in some religions. I heard this from the place I got my "rug" from.

Hi Tom!
This is PBJ (Peanut Butter & Jelly), or call me 'Peanut'. I am a guy and I have 3 different wigs I wear when I am out: long dark brown and straight, long auburn (dark) and slightly wavy, and a dark-medium mid-length that is more curly. The auburn one is my favorite (and I payed $145 for it at a shop in Portland, OR).
I never do this at work or at home, but I travel a lot and I always take them with me and wear them out. I also always add earrings, and sometimes a hat (berret or cap). I am trim and in shape, so it looks nice when I wear this with dressier dark clothes. I often get very nice smiles, especially from women in their 20's.
I like to visit museams and college campuses dressed this way, since the tolerance factor for long hair on a guy is very high. I really like the more feminine guy look, and I have found quite a few women who do as well.
Hope to hear from you :)

Hi Pbj
may i ask a few questions about the wigs? are they synthetic or human hair? how do you secure them from sliding or slipping? do they have a skin top? i guess you use bangs to cover the front edge?
i have long hair blended into my own that i keep adding longer hair as my own thinner hair gets longer- the idea of wearing a wig occasionally for real longer hair and deiiferent style has some interest for me.
thanks!

Mine are skin top with synthetic hair. I have found out that there are many grades of synthetic, and more expensive ones don't tangle and get ratty like the cheaper ones do. Also, the more expensive ones have more blending and color variation, that give a much better apperance.
I have bangs on them, but I often comb them over or bring them up a bit to make the front look natural. I only use water to do this, since anything else will eventually build up and cause you grief. Sometimes I comb them down, which looks more feminine, but thats OK with me :)
The straps in back of the better ones can hold your wig on tight, but you should also hairpin it in front and on the sides. You need this for the very long ones, since they have some weight to them and can slide around if you move quickly. Also, make sure some of the hair hangs in front over your shoulders (it looks better anyway), and you wont have to worry.
Mine is held in place using double-sided transparent tape in front and
stainless steel comb-like clips attached to the base in back and sides. It's comfortable and secure even in high winds.
question for ray- does yours have skin top and or lace type front edge-so you can brush it back? do you wear it all the time - is it human hair and very long- do you have any suggestions on wear to go to get a really good one?
thanks!
No, mine has bangs in front. It has fine short hairs on both sides of the front of the base to help hide it. I've seen the skin bases and I need more durability than they can offer. However I think I could get away with combing it back a little as long as it's just to lift it a bit. I wear it all the time (not sleeping) and it is a mix of human and synthetic. If I'm carefull washing it I have very few tangles.
This was from a run-o'-the-mill bald-guy's salon. They tend to last me about three years. By then the color needs updating anyway.
what do the wigs like yours cost about with the human and better grade of synthetic longer hair with the skin top and the ability to tape the front and clip the back? is there a brand name or company to look for-?probably better to go to nearest vendor than try and find online?
thanks for taking time to help
The skin base I think is an expensive option. I have a more substantial (cheaper) base (don't know what it's made of) and it was about 550.00 from a local place. I would not want to go to one of the nation-wide hair clubs. Look at all them ads you have to pay for.
Where I go and most places they take a small sample of your hair from different places on your head for color matching and still sometimes they don't get it right. They can adjust it to match more closely with some chemical treatment to fade it or ad in hair to darken it. Usually comes too dark when it's new, easy to correct unless you got it highlighted. Be aware however, that blonde hair will lighten over time and black hair is the toughest to maintain color. I think they just dye it. (sucks if you have any grey that you want to keep.)
So what you're saying is you don't wig in, but you do wig out.
Sorry, I couldn't help it.
Indeed!
