I have lower back long hair. I put it into a ponytail, which is about 15 inches long. I will have a job interview with the CAN Insurance Company on next Friday (8/20). I dont know what I should do with my hair. I think that most insurance company is more conservative. I my need cut of, at least, 7 inches off my ponytail, which I really hate to do. Do you have other suggestions? I think other options are to put my ponytail under my suits. Otherwise, I can tie the end of my ponytail to the beginning of the ponytail and make it looks half-length long. Has anyone here tried these tow methods? Please help me to get the job and save my hair. Thanks for your attentions.
if you plan on maintaining your hair length for the duration of the employment, then don't hide it for the interview. i can't in good conscience advise you to give up a decent job for the sake of your hair, but tie it back and dress as conservative as you can comfortably tolerate. if you really need the job and they have a hair length policy you may have to part with it, but they may give you some leeway... be polite and conversational with your interviewer. if he or she challenges you hairstyle be matter-of-fact and friendly about your preference but don't take offense or be argumentative. if there are other employment options don't cut until you know you'll have to. alot of prejudices can be overcome with a first impression ("gee... he doesn't act like a druggie punk..."). you have 7 days to research the companies policies- check for an employee dress code. good luck & keep us posted.
Whatever you do, don't cut your hair!
First of all, this is the *most important* time to be yourself. If you start by trying to second-guess what your future company wants, there is no end to it.
Second, what if you don't get the job? You'll be missing some of your hard-earned locks, and you'll feel terrible about "selling out" -- and not getting anything in return!
I've got a big interview with a client on Tuesday, so I know what you're feeling. What I've done before is, I dress really nice (suit, tie, etc. whatever is appropriate for the industry), and pull my hair back really neat. When I arrive, I act really confident -- and why shouldn't we be confident?? We've had the guts to grow our hair out, and that is the attitude to get across. "I can grow my hair out in a short hair world, and I can do great stuff for your company" and then go from there to have a great interview!!
Also, do all of the traditional job interview techniques: study up on the company so that you can ask relevant and pertient questions, have your resume and references really shine, and ask a lot of questions.
Your idea about doubling it back onto itself sounds good -- why not try that?
Good luck!
