For those who asked how long the results from a ceramic iron last:
To recap, I washed my hair Sunday night and let it air-dry overnight, then woke up to this:
After some quality time (10 min.) with my Farouk CHI 1" ceramic iron and a touch of jojoba oil, I had this:
It's now 48 hours later, and I haven't used a comb or a brush or any styling products (not even additional jojoba oil) in the past two days. I simply run my fingers through my hair to style it in the morning, and it's still pretty straight:
The ends have flipped a bit, but they're obviously not nearly as curly as they normally would be. In fact, I rather like it better after the ends flip a tad; it looks more natural.
Again, I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina, where it's extremely humid this type of year. So for my hair to hold up this well after two days (one of which was overcast and rainy) is pretty good. I do have to wear a shower cap when I shower (that much steam would definitely curl it back up, as I found out in a hot tub week before last), but that's a small price to pay.
Cheers,
Jeremy
Jeremy, the results are fantastic! That iron really does wonders for your hair. I had a go of straightening my hair the other day (so far only ever done it twice) using a straightener, (don't think it was ceramic) and it did hardly anything for my hair. So my sister used her travelling iron (AGHHHHHH!) on my hair after using the straightener and it worked! But the effect lasted little over 24 hours before it curled up again. Your hair looks awesome even now, which is straighter than I could get mine.
I posted a question a fornight or something ago about how I could keep my hair from curling because of the steam when having a shower. Poeple said use a shower cap, so I did, but even that doesn't do much to my hair, especially if I haven't washed it for a few days. Have you found any damage yet like dry ends sinse using chi?
What kind of shower cap are you using? I bought a heavy-duty vinyl one at Target and no humidity whatsoever gets through it. Keep looking; you'll find the right one.
I've only been using the ceramic iron for a couple of weeks, but I haven't noticed any damage so far. And as I mentioned below, my stylist didn't freak when I told him I was using one. I think the key is to wash and condition with good products (I use Jason Naturals), air-dry after washing and only iron every few days.

Hi Jeremy
You have me wondering if I should give one of these irons a try. I really just have curly hair near the temples so it wouldnt be too hard for me to blow dry them straight if I had any skill at it. I really am almost too lazy for this hair :)
You are looking great especially in your lowermost picture which is testament enough for the value of the product.

Ok,
So it took a while for me to see the results and your hair ROCKS w/ the ironing. I'm not a fan of over worked hair, but your results are worth repeating. Thanks for the update on your hair. Keep up the great work and hang in there.
Ciao,
ck
Thanks for the comments, guys. And for what it's worth, I didn't have time to shampoo last night, so today's 72 hours since ironing and my hair is every bit as straight as yesterday. I'll definitely have to shampoo tonight, though, as the hair's getting a bit too shiny.
If you have problems with frizz and/or unruly curls as you're growing out, I don't think you can go wrong with a good, high-quality ceramic iron (high-quality being the operative words). But as with everything, moderation in use is key.
Before buying, I highly suggest checking out reviews at http://www.makeupalley.com. The women on that site are fierce and very blunt with their reviews.
Cheers,
Jeremy
Hello Jeremy,
I know you mentioned not using a comb or brush on your hair since the straightening. If it was because you did not need to rather than an avoidance of brushes you might want to get a boar bristle hairbrush. The bristles soak up some of the scalp oil and redistribute the rest lower into your length. This can extend the time between washings and the straightening afterward.
Your hair is lovely in all the photos, thank you for sharing them.
