What are the signs that hair loss is starting to occur, particularly male pattern baldness? What can be done to help prevent this?
Another question...the common "horseshoe" battern I've heard about...what does it look like?
not sure about horseshoe, personally started on propecia
2 months ago. not clear if it is helping, takes minimum
3 months to show possible difference and likely to help you keep what you've got rather then initiate new growth, though it does this for some men. certainly helps
psychologically, makes you feel you are doing something.
also, very easy, just a tiny pill a day.
allegedly works best in combination with rogaine, and effective on the top of the head.
problems with propecia are if you stop it, you
quickly start losing any hair you might have gained,
and you go back to the pace of balding you were at before.
it also costs money, and can have side effect of decreased
sex drive and erectile dysfunction. this has not occurred in
a major way for me but there has been a minor decrease.
this might or might not go away in time and is meant to go away if i stop taking propecia i.e all effects, positive and negative, seem to stop when you stop taking it. propcia.com claim only
2% get side effects but it seems a lot more do.
Its possible effects on hair peak after taking for 1 year and for the
second year. They might wear off after this.
certainly not advised if you are thinking of starting
a family as propecia, if affecting sexual function, might affect foetus.think carefully, and there could well be other factors
you could change to help you like diet and lifestyle.
I think the "horseshoe" pattern is where the temples receed towards one another and join-up, leaving a little island of hair isolated at the front of the head..
Example: Alan Shearer.
I am very new to understanding this, and that's what I think has me worried, because I know it is common. I am concerned about how the hairline looks as if it goes back on both sides of the head as seen in this picture. Is this hair loss or is it normal?
Nah your ok, most guys do have that type of hairline, it just when people realize they have it they sometimes freak out, but when you look around there are plenty of older guys whove had that hairline for most of their lives and they still have a full head of hair. Now this is no guarantee but theres no need to panic.
Yeah this is very normal, its also common to freak out when you first realise. Its absolutely no problem, you temples will receed slightly, the time to worry is when they join up. :-)
Is it normal because hair is not normally there or has receding already begun?
The latter, but some receding there is normal and doesn't mean you will ever be bald. I think there is a rule of thumb that men who go bald have significant hair loss before the age of 30, i.e. a lot worse than that in your picture.
Well, I've just become very, very worried about it. I am only 20, and don't want to be losing any hair on the top of my head. I can't really say much more about it other than it's something that has had me worried because of how common it is. Will my hairline continue to recede for sure or how far will it go before it looks like balding might occur? It's uncommon for me to look at my hair (or anyone else's) without worrying about this, which is greatly ruining the fun of growing long hair.
At the risk of feeding your paranoia, it's too soon to really tell, but your hair looks quite normal. What you have to understand is that ALL guys' hair recedes to some extent, unless they are totally lacking in male hormones, which would be a far bigger problem!
Another thing that it is important to understand is that it male pattern baldness has no effect on the rest of your hair. It's quite possible to grow hair down to your knees whilst being bald on top.
I don't thik you are going bald, but unfortunately you just have to wait and see.
I met with my grandparents last weekend. They told me that the hair I have is very much like some other person in my family (can't remember who) but I was told that this person had a full head of hair even at an old age. Does the risk factor for hair loss come from the same place as the rest of the hair's properties?
Also, as a side note, they told me that my hair is the kind that looks better short. I thought there was no such thing.
