Do any of you guys shave your legs for Hygenic purposes or for other reasons like Partipation in sports like Wrestling, Swimming, Biking. Or is shaving your legs only for females. I tried it for the first time a few days ago, and my legs showed muscles, I didn't know it had.
I need a torch and chainsaw to shave my legs. That must be why the hair on them is longer than the hair on my head. :/ O_o
I don't think it's feminine if you're doing it for aerodynamic purposes.
I think it's just a matter of personal taste. No feminine qualities about it.
On a side note: Does anyone have the stange phenomenon where they have really hairy legs but virtually no hair on the arms or chest? I think my puberty is out of whack lol.
Yes I have almost no hair on my Arms or Chest. Only some near my belly button. I'm happy, I just can't stand being Hairy at all unless the hair is on top of my head.
My skin flakes alot especially on my legs. Every time I run nails through it I get a lot of dead skin. With Shaved Legs this isn't as much of a problem. I can just run a wash cloth over my legs and get rid of dead skin.
Many these days would envy you..............others think "too Female." But who is to say? It is YOU that has that decision.
Seems in the magazines we see over and over the "Sports Guys" smooth. "Trendy" perhaps? (It is rather a clean-look I suppose.) But then there are other aspects such as you might just like the look? (Heavens, how many desire to look like an Ape?) It is all Genetic and Heritage. I KNOW Guys in general despise hair on their backs and would hardly call the removal of this a "Female act." It depends alot on how you want to present yourself...............just like when it comes to having Long Hair.
Now.............for this "Aerodynamic" bit. Well...........it is a GREAT EXCUSE to "show-off" Muscle Tone. The Bikers say that removal of the hair on their legs will make them go faster. (Yeah, sure.) They most likely are proud to show-off the muscles in their legs they worked so hard to attain. And what of the Swimmers? Same thing. And Body Builders? YIKES!!!!!!!!!!! Who in their right mind would desire superb Muscle Tone only to be covered with enough fur to outfit "King Kong?" I have yet to meet any guy who removes body hair that acts like a Women. Far from it in fact.
It boils down to this: some love body hair and others are tormented by it. (I have seen more older Men with such an abundance of hair on their hands.............and they are Bald!) I am certain that if they could, they would do a hand to head transplant if such a thing existed.
And one final note having to do with Medical. Some people are allergic to their own sweat. It is NO fun!!! Body hair traps moisture longer to the skin where the sweat ferments and the poor person is just about driven crazy by a terrible rash! Shaving off the hair means quicker evaporation as air gets to the skin..........but still there is some trouble. Several showers a day seem to be the only solution for relief.
A "Female Act?" Hardly.
Clearly, you've never been a swimmer or a biker. : )
In high-stakes events, such as the Olympics, every last advantage you can muster is a possible ticket to a win. Hair, believe it or not, can cause noticeable drag, especially in water where the resistence is much higher. For bikers it's slightly less of a problem, but that extra 10 centimeters per second you may gain from reduced drag can really add up when you're on a 25-mile bike track.
That's why the trend nowadays for swimmers is full-body suits made out of synthetics polymers that offer less friction than bare skin. This is why hair is kept in swimming caps and absolutely perfect technique to minimize drag is essential.
Yep. I wouldn't change it if I had the choice to, either.
Yeah - puberty seemed to completely ignore me from the waist up, I have really hairy legs, the usual stuff, then a chest which closely resembles George Doors' head. Completely bald.
Other annoying side effects mean that whilst I'm 25 years old I still think like a 15 year-old. Girls...Playstation...Cheap Cider... Girls... Playstation... Cheap Cider.
*Must learn to grow up*
Ah ! Memories of Ulrika Johnson and the Vibro-Sprout Challenge !
Yea I have mega hairy legs but not much in the form of chest hair.
I guess I was a late starter in puberty, started at 14 and a half lol, which is later than it should I guess i'm developing. It was only within the last 2 months i've noticed hair on my chest, that's worrying!.
I find armpit hair extreamly annoying and shaving makes it worse so I just pluck any hairs out and I don't get any problems.(I don't have much in the first place!)
After a session down my local beach, the salt water drives my skin crazy and hair lets the water evaporate and leaves the salt on my skin, that can be horrible on hot days!
Yea gross I know, but I didn't ask for hair!
Hygenic purposes? I can't imagine what those purposes might be... Instead of shaving my legs I just make sure they get good n' clean in the shower. But do whatever thrills ya' I say.
LOL. yeah once a girl asked me to shave my legs so I did it. well I don't see her anymore so I don't do it anymore, just because its alot of work and the hair doesn't bug me anyway. I do however shave my chest and pits, and of course my face.
I have moderately hairy legs, with only a little hair on my arms and chest.
I used to pluck or shave lots of hair off my body back when I was about 15 and had some issues... apart from that, never shaved my legs or anything.
I have a friend who's a pro swimmer. He shaves everything... 'cept his eyebrows and anywhere behind the bikini line :)
For anyone who is interested... I used to be very afraid of any type of body hair when I was younger, and like wolf eyes I'd say I had 'issues.' Certain things have changed my thoughts on this however.
The first was something I discovered about many of the hollywood leading men types. I was well aware body builders waxed or shaved their bodies, but it was a surprise for me to discover many actors and sports stars do as well for cosmetic reasons only. I started to take notice of pictures of these famous idols where they clearly had chest hair etc, and then other times when they didn't. When I found this out, I started to think that I really didn't want to follow the ridiculous trends of pop culture which disgust me for many reasons. These guys, I thought, are just like me and being forced to do this to themselves because somewhere someone decided thats how it should be. Do people nowadays think men should be totally shorn because they've gotten a message from god, or is it like most things where they were fed this message through TV and magazines? Is this not the exact same crap that drives woman to eating disorders and makes 14 year old girls ask for breast implants for christmas?
The second thing was something as simple as a comment from a girl I know. She kind of looked at me one day like she was sizing me up and then told me how masculine I was. She said it like it was a good thing, like she was impressed, which doesn't happen much (or isn't published should I say). I was totally taken aback... so ... its okay to be masculine? I'm definitly in touch with my feminine side mind you, but it occured as I pondered it that at some point it became acutally undesirable for men to be masculine (and woman to be feminine for that matter).
I'm not promoting a regression in social equality, or personal liberties to do whatever the hell makes you happy. I've just arrived a the conclusion that I really admire men and woman who are comfortable being men and woman. I love it when girls wear dresses, drop the 'i'm gunna kick some ass you got a problem with that?' attitude, and yet are strong confident and capable woman who know they are and should be socially equal to men. Why shouldn't the same be for guys who can be sensative, gentle, compassionate, and yet very much men?
Anyway, thats just one way to look at it. I know what I'm talking about goes way beyond shaving your legs or any other part of your body, but talking about this is really talking about a much larger issue in my opinion.
Palehunter, I totally agree with your views on masculinity/femininity-they completly accord with mine.
In terms of the question however, it's my belief that a man should embrace his body. The only time that a guy should shave his legs, is for (A) competiton (e.g. bodybuilding, swimming etc) or (B) if for some reason he finds it tremendously embarrasing or (C) for fun and he's comfortable with his body.
Persoanlly, i love my leg hair (although it's not like I sit around thinking about it or anything!).
I don't shave my legs though in the summer I use clippers on my body hair to look less atavistic. It requires less maintenance than shaving. I don't think body shaving is feminine. Take a look at any male body building magazine on the news stand and you will se that the males featured in the magazine shave or wax their entire bodies (including their underarms) and there is nothing 'girly' about the way they look.
I sometimes get what looks like acne on my legs. An LPN once told me that because I have hairy legs, I'm prone to infections. Apparently stuff can travel down the hair into the follicle. Looking carefully I can see that they always occur on a follicle. I've tossed around the idea of shaving my legs, but I'm not really keen on the idea. I really like just letting things go and be natural... OK, a confession here: I probably just need to wash my jeans more often. The LPN also suggested antibacterial soap.
These things never occur on other hairy parts of my body. My theory is that the other hair is less confined, and thus not in a hot sweaty environment where bacteria like to live.
So, if you are considering shaving for hygenic reasons I'd consider loose-fitting pants and/or bacterial soap first.
Shaving body hair is purely preference and nothing to do with femininity.
I have shaved from the top of my legs to my neck for years and take my legs down twice a year. Clipper them in between.
It looks good and feels BETTER. So take no notice of anyone who says men don't do it. They can and should if they want.
I hardly have any hair on my legs, so I'm a little jealous of the guys who do LOL !! Heck, I'm 21 and I've seen 13 year olds with a LOT more hair down there than me. I think it runs in the family cause my brother is the same way.
I am naturally gorilla hairy ! Don't shave my legs but run a beard trimmer over my chest every month. My wife shaves my back once in a while and I shave my shoulders every week or two. I find that sex is greatly enhanced by having shaved genitals so I keep that area smooth. I've realised that all this hair removal is to do with physical sensations rather than appearance - I can hardly feel my wife's hands if she's touching me through a mass of body hair !
Yes -- I first shaved my legs for triathlon, discovered that I {& my GF} like it, and just kept on. Once you get used to it it's no big deal -- I shave 2-3 times a week in the shower and it takes under 10 min. I get comments from women frequently, of the "Nice legs! How often do you shave?" variety. And in shorts {or skirts, which I occasionally don also} they look sleek and touchable.
No, I don't feel the need to. I'm fine with having bodyhair.
I did once overhear some people behind me saying I needed to shave my legs (I was wearing a kilt at the time), but I'm not gonna do it cause I hear some stranges thinking I should.
I don't even think they intended me to hear, I'm quite good at hearing like that. If I'm in my room and my parents are talking lightly upstairs, I can hear their conversation...
