Hello all,
First off, I am new to this forum and after reading some of the postings and replies, I'm really impressed with how all the posts are so polite and well behaved. Great job guys!
Since this is my first post, I will tell something about myself. I see most you guys are from Europe; I hail from the other side of the Atlantic where I am currently a full time college student. I play the guitar and listen to music a lot; my taste in music limited only by the kinds of guitar driven music out there, ranging from the soothing Tracy Chapman to the hardcore Iron Maiden. I am a big long hair desiree/fan. I used to have medium long hair(grown for about 2 years) about 1.5 years ago. But I just got really frustrated with how dry and unmanageable my hair looked and cut it short. But I am back with new zeal and determination to grow out my hair long and get those locks I have been dreaming about.
Okay, now to my questions and requests for advice. I have very thick, black, wavy/curly hair which frizzes a lot after I wash my hair. I use Aussie Moist shampoo and follow it up with Loreal Vive NutriForce Conditioner for Dry/Damaged Hair (I also use Neutrogena build up removing shampoo every week). It feels smooth when I'm just out of the shower, but it frizzes like crazy as my hair dries off. I constantly run my fingers through my hair to "spread my natural scalp oil through my hair." However, my hair ends up very frizzy and dry and I am really dissatisfied with the way my hair looks. I have been growing my hair for about 5 months now (I started from maybe 1.5 inches long) and now my hair covers my ears at the sides and my eyes at the front. Any advice on the how to tame this?
Second question, the lower part of my hair (the ones at the side of my neck, and just above my ears) feels very coarse and uneven as compared to the top part of my hair. Is it supposed to be like this? Should I trim these part of my hair to have a more even texture?
Third question, when I run my hand through my hair, I feel clumps of hair on my hand rather than individual strands of hair. I know curly hair tends to clump or stick together, but are there any ways to "strandize" you hair and make them less clumpy?
Thats about it for now. I'll try to upload the picture of my hair so you guys can see what I am talking about. By the way, I saw some great looking hair while browsing through the forum. Great job guys!!
Sorry my first post is so long. I'll try to keep it short from now on.

Hi Black Dog
Welcome to the board. As a musican you'll have a lot in common with others on the board, by my estimate 99% of us play an instrument or like similiar music to you, and btw there are a lot of other members from your side of the pond.
To answer your questions:
1) How to reduce frizz.
You probably want to try a leave in conditioner or jojoba oil (which is very popular amongst many on the board.) a few drops normally calm the hair pretty well.
2) Coarse hair at the back and sides.
To be honest I felt the same thing then I switched to a different shampoo, one for extra dry hair. (SMOOTHDOWN from REDKEN). Its not that my hair felt 'that' dry, I got similiar results from their milder ALL SOFT line but I preferred the smell of the other. The choice to trim is yours alone to make, but sooner or later you are going to have to grow this part of your hair too, and the coarseness problem won't go away unless you tackle it.
Hope that helps, lookforward to seeing your progress pics.
Sorted
I'm with the other dude regarding jojoba oil to calm your hair down. Run some thru damp hair, then comb.
