Hi everyone,
Bill just got my picture online and I had asked him about this, but perhaps I should ask the entire board.
While my hair is still short (4.5 inches) and curly, what are the best ways for me to wear my hair at this length (and during the upcoming lengths) while still looking presentable? My profile picture shows my hair when it is "slicked back" after showering and left to dry in that position. However, I am as my hair gets longer (something I am very intentional on letting it do) I am figuring that this look will be harder and harder to accomplish. I'm sure I'd like something else, too, but not sure exactly what.
The only thing I've seen so far on the web is the one second section on this page: http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip356.htm and I can't get my hair to do that, probably because it's not long enough. The site also says that thicker hair is required...how do I determine whether my hair is "thicker" or "thinner"?
Anyone have any good pictures of guys with curly hair that isn't short but isn't quite long yet either?
Thanks,
Rick
I have curly hair too and for the first couple of months my hair resembled an afro. When I wanted to look presentable, which is not often because im in highschool and just dont really care much; I would gel the hair back. The only thing you can do really is to keep geling it. For me its been about 8 months and i can finally straighten it to look good.
Yes, gel works for me to slick it back still, and I am at 10 inches on my hair growth. I prefer to wear my hair down and let the natural curls flow free, though, on the majority of days!

You can't quite see it here, but this was my interim phase (here I'm taking novice vows in a 3rd order)
1st phase--lotsa goop
2nd phase--using band to hold my hair back just behind the crown of my head, starting with goop in the front to keep stuff from going forward, then having the band hold it when the stuff gets long enough
3rd phase--gradually lowering the band until it is in a ponytail. Able to let it hang loose, with a little bit of American Crew cream to keep it out of my face.
4th phase--No creams, band is optional, and I'm just starting to be able to consider hair jewelry.
Nate (who has been doing this for 2 years and is only to his shoulders--that's how curly his hair is.) Prentice
