Hi,
I have fairly long hair almost down to the shoulders. I have very thick hair and i usually did like it very much indeed. But around one year ago i started using jelly in my hair to style it now and then. And short thereafter i started using it every day and therefor i also showered evey day. And for some reason my hair, from that time, got dryer and dryer (sp?). Today, when i want to throw the jelly away i just can't. My hair is so dry and lifeless if i don't use it.
I would really like to have nice hair again, not this lifeless DRY hair. So i'm asking if someone knows how i shall do to get it the way it once was. Could the jelly be the cause? Does jelly dry out hair?
Anything would be helpful.
Thanks!
~Brad
Hair gel can dry out your hair somewhat if it has a high concentration of alcohol in it. Look at the ingredients label of the gel you've been using - if something like "SD Alcohol 40" or "Alcohol Denat" is one of the first ingredients listed, then toss it in the trash and get an alcohol free gel. (The whole alcohol thing can be confusing, though... some alcohols are not drying, but actually moisturizing, like "cetyl alcohol" or "steryl alcohol.")
Other things that might be drying out your hair could be silicones in your gel or shampoo which can build up on your hair, making it feel brittle. Avoid shampoos, conditioners, gels, etc. that contain anything with ingredients like "dimethicone," "cyclomethicone," etc. -look for the "cone" at the end of the word... that's a silicone derivative.
Try using a deep cleansing shampoo that contains no silicones, and then you might try using a deep penetrating conditioner like Wella's "In-Depth Treatment" - very moisturizing and has no silicones. You can find it at Sally Beauty Supply.
