Hi all:
Anyone here have a 2- or 3-megapixel digital camera they absolutely love, or one they loathe? Mine tore up (after serving me quite well, I might add) and is being replaced, thanks to the extended warranty. The one I had is no longer made, so I'm looking for recommendations. I'm not a professional photographer and typically don't print photos, so I'm looking for something basic. Requirements: solid construction, decent indoor shots and optical zoom. Other than that I'm open. (Right now I'm looking at the Nikon Coolpix 2200, HP Photosmart 635, Fuji Finepix A205 and Samsung Digimax 240, in that order. Other suggestions welcome!)
Thanks!
Jeremy
It's been nearly 2 weeks since my purchase of my Samsung Digimax 301. My first camera was a really bad AGFA (forget the model name), cost £49.99 with 1.3 megapixels. Took that back and bought a Praktica DC 40, 2 megapixels, that was awesome until I accidently dropped it (only about 1 foot high) after 6 months, and took it back saying I wasn't happy with the camera. Now I got a Digimax 301 3.3 megapixels. It meets your requirements, Has a very solid construction, wont break easy, excellent indoor shots, but no optical zoom. The digital zoom is pretty good though, don't lose much quality using that. It has 16mb memory, can be upgraded to 512mb. It can take 40 high resolution high definition pics at 1024x768 using 16mb memory, and about 400 shots with normal quality on 16mb. Also has video mode with sound, video mode is excellent. Voice recorder, night pictures, I love it. Remember what cameras look like: compare one you see with a design you would like to see that is not digital. For example, mine is a portable rectangular camera, but doesn't look like a proper SLR. Digital camera's dont all have to look like the shape of a Samsung 240, but then they go up in price, so it's not a good idea unless you've got the money.
Just my thoughts.
I have a Canon Powershot A70 which is 3 megapixels and 3x zoom.
I'm very happy with it, except that I'd like to have more zoom.
But it's a good camera, for sure, and I love having it!

Hi Jeremy
I have an Olympus C300, which I'm very happy with, its a bit "old hat" nowadays but a good all round 3 Megapixel Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and Adjustable flash.
I'd certainly recommend giving the Olympus rangee the once over.
Sorted
Thanks for the recommendations. As it turns out, the store gave me the current model of the camera I had, so I ended up with a 3 megapixel Fuji FinePix A330...a step up from the 2 megapixel FinePix I bought three years ago. My other camera worked fine until the sliding lens cover eventually wore out, so I'm happy.
Again, thanks!
Jeremy
