Go to "Links" at the top of the hyperboard, then "FAQ - on being a longhair". This is a great start, then watch the board for ongoing advice.
thanx for the advise

Well Kane,
Its a pity its not your thing, cos judging by your pictures, particularly your "Profile Pics" you're probably one of the most photogenic people on the board.
Maybe you should get an agent. ;-)
Who told you that to get into modeling you should have long hair?
Most modeling agencies will tell you that the exotic look isn't in and that most work is for the "regular" person look.
I agree. From reading postings on here for a few years, I've seen discussions that "modeling" and "acting" are two fields that longhairs face a lot of discrimination in, and in those two fields it's probably legally justified.
The reality is they can even legally discriminate for race or sex or age in those fields, because you are playing a part, and you must look the part. And most parts call for shorthaired people.
Shorthaired people can be made up to look longhaired, but longhaired people cannot be made up to look shorthaired. Thus, most models and actors go for short hair.
It has also been widely reported on this board that models and actors are TOLD repeatedly precisely what to do with their hair. They are expected to reply "Yes, sir!" with no backtalk as readily as would be expected of a military recruit. This situation would not set well with most longhairs, who are independent sorts when it comes to their own bodies.
Some longhairs do go into those fields, but the road is tough. If you do wish to follow it, of course we wish you the best!
my agent asked me to grow it out and be different she has lots of short hair models but wants long hair model too. how do i look i am almost at month 5 of growth
thanx

What does your agent define as long hair and what does he/she envision as a good length for you to make money off of.
What will you do if/when a job comes along that requires you to cut off any length that you have managed to grow? Are you targeting just long hair shoots and is your agent trying to get you jobs now while your hair is still short or is this something for the future?
Long hair doesn't survive for very long in this sort of environment due to the time it takes to grow it and the desire needed to keep it. Long hair becomes part of your lifestyle over time and if you reasons for having it are to make money then you may find it difficult or unnecessary to keep it as it's easier to make money with short hair in modeling/acting.
You might call some other agencies just to ask about their opinions on this so you have a more complete perspective on your possible employment enviroment. It never hurts to get more input.
In most cases, the studio will give them the haircut. They'll ask if you mind, but that's before casting; a "no" answer means you don't want the part.
If the longer hair is an integral part of their accepted look, however, we can sometimes negotiate a bonus for allowing the haircut. That implies they really want a specific actor, though.
