hey, umm...i was thinking about my potential styles for when my hair get longer in the next few months and the thought of umm, dreads came into my mind. this is more directed to That ''Ball'' Guy but any who could answer this for me, i would greatly appreciate it. umm, right now i am just curious, so are there any websites i could look at that would better inform me about dreads? thanks guys
You should also know that dreadlocks look like crap the first few weeks you have them. There will be fuzzy bits sticking out everywhere, but the longer you have them, the less and less fuzzys youll have as they get worked into a lock. Hope this helps, good luck!
Hey, thanks again for responding. like i said earlier, i'm really just looking into different possibilities. I've just always thought dreads look really cool.
i suggest you wait until you have a better motivation than "looking cool" before you do anything to your hair! (i know you're "just looking", i just want to feed something else i think you should look at :)
it will, regardless of the technique used, take many months before they look "good". Unless you use tons of wax, and then it will 1) not look good 2) not lock because the hair can't move.
people looking into dreads for vanity usually cut their locks pretty quickly. You wouldn't want to lose that hair, would you?
not trying to look down on your or anything, just giving an advise that may save you lots of trouble. In the end it's your choice :)
good luck!

LOL dude, what is it with you against wax? I've known a couple of dreadheads (actually helped with 2) and NOBODY that has used wax has complained about dirt, not looking good, or not locking up. Unless you're using candle wax, it cannot hold the hair so much as to keep it from locking.
I have to agree here.
wait till you see the amount of wax stuck in the center of their locks later on. it's gross. Yes, even with a little use.
and note that in that case i said "unless you use __TONS__ of wax". using little wax will hinder the locking process, not stop it completely.
just think about it for a second. movement makes hair lock. you're sticking the hair together. how is it supposed to lock? You're just making clumps of waxed hair.
anyways. people wanting dreads for vanity will use wax anyway because they won't be able to deal with the frizzies, only now, i can say "i told you so" ;)
take care

In my opionion the only reason you should have dreadlocks is if your an African American. Any other races it takes too much work to get the hair to lock like African American Kinky Hair. I once knew a guy with dreadlocks he didn't wash his hair for 2 weeks. That is just nasty. When I was younger I never combed my hair and never ran conditioner through but never developed dreads.
seems my reply was stuck in moderation (it wasn't that bad, really :)
i think that's nonsense, not because your hair hasn't locked (and that's probably due to combing with your fingers/2in1 shampoo/length of your hair) doesn't mean that noone else's hair will lock except african american.
and by the way, races don't exist.
your point about that guy not washing his hair for 2 weeks also doesn't make any sense. In fact, your whole message does nothing to prove your point.

just stop combing your hair and using conditioner and in a few years you will have amazing dreads, and patience and respect for your hair (something i find most people on this (long hair men's ..) lack, always wanting to "improve" on what they have using chemicals)
good luck!

I've found that unless you're of african heritage, this method doesn't yield very good results due to the non-kinkyness of most people's hair.
Oh yeah?
Of course if you expect nice clone dreads it will not yield "good" results. But it locks.
What do you mean by not so good results? I've seen natural locks from completely straight caucasian hair (took 2.5 years to lock up i think) and i fail to see anything wrong with them...

Yeah, I don't see anything wrong with wanting nice dreadlocks.
i didn't say it was wrong, i said unless that was your main priority, your comment that it didn't work out too well was unjustified and sounds more like dreadkits sellers propaganda
and i think natural locks are a lot prettier, we can't really judge on that.
