If sulfates are so harsh on your hair, why is it that most shampoos contain two of them? Is one not enough?
well.... the commercial [%] shampoo makers dont care about your health.
they are the same people that sell medecine, anti baldness stuff, and conditioner.

[%] no "Artisanal" soap maker that i know of uses any of those harsh chemicals :)
One is more expensive than the other, but a better foaming agent so I suspect by combining the two you get the benefits of a slightly easier lather without all the additional expense.
Example:
Redeken Smooth Down Contains only Sodium Laureth Sulphate costs £8.00 a bottle.
Clairol Herbal Essences contains both: Sodium Laureth Sulphate & Soduim Lauryl sulphate Costs £2.50 a bottle.
Guess which ingredient is more expensive?? Mind you with Redken you do pay more for the 5th Avenue Address *grin*
